9/27/24: First Fish!!!

I have been dosing Fritz Turbostart as well as Brightwell Microbacter the past 2 weeks and the tank has been very stable with nitrates slowly creeping up past zero. Decided after a tough business trip that today was the day to add my first 3 fish. I have 2 GREAT LFS in the Boise ID area in Quality Fish and Corals as well as Corals 4 Cheap that have helped immensely in the planning and layout of this tank. QFC had a Tomini tang, six line wrasse as well as another Reginald (Lawnmower Blenny) that were introduced to the tank today. The wrasse and blenny are hiding for the most part, but the Tomini tang has been very active and is swimming all over. There is no way to get pictures until they get more settled.

To further stock the tank, I also purchased a bunch of fish online at AFD. Here is what will come next week:

Total stocking to this point is as follows (11 Fish):

1 - Tomini Tang (Ctenochaetus tominiensis)
1 - Six Line Wrasse (Pseudocheilinus hexataenia)
1 - Lawnmower Blenny REGINALD! (Salarias fasciatus)
1 - Disbar Anthias (Pseudanthias dispar)
1 - Yellow Watchman Goby (Cryptocentrus cinctus)
1 - Tail Spot Blenny (Ecsenius stigmatura)
1 - Purple Firefish (Nemateleotris decora)
1 - Midas Blenny (Ecsenius midas)
1 - Purple Dottyback (Pseudochromis fridmani)
2 - Maroon Lightning Clownfish (Amphiprion biaculeatus sp.)

I also purchased this week the following from @reefcleaners

4 Trochus Snails
1 Emerald Crab
27 Florida Ceriths
14 Nassarius vibex
6 Astraea Snails
58 Dwarf Ceriths
6 Nerites
8 Assorted Hermits
3 Turbo Snails

I'm going to give the tank another ~month to mature after adding these fish and inverts before beginning to introduce some easy SPS. Thanks for looking!

I bought from reef cleaners around a month ago. I had a large outbreak of GHA so I snagged a lot of blue leg hermits and let me tell you the algae was gone in about 5 days. It came packaged perfectly !

10/10/24: Progress!
All fish arrived, are disease free, and are really doing well! The Avast Plank AF has been a game-changer in keeping the entire tank well fed and happy! I also added a CO2 scrubber which has had a 'meh' (.1-.3 increase in pH) effect. I plan on moving to Kalk once more SPS is introduced.

I moved a couple corals over from my nanos into the 72g. Here are the current corals:

2x Green Tentacle Fungia Plate Coral
1x WWC Electrified Goniapora
1x Monster Jam Psammacora

I plan on adding some acros and other SPS very slowly over the next couple of weeks.

Current water quality:

How are you liking the maroon’s? I am afraid they will be terrors in a similar tank
Only ended up with 1 Maroon Clown as per suggestion from the retailer. He's already a terror and chases the magnetic algae scraper all over the tank. Gets along great with all of the fish though. :grimacing-face:

I've always wanted a pair of maroons but hear so many horror stories I've always stayed away. They are pretty fish, glad yours is working out so far.

I'm sure he'll behave. Worst horror stories are what they do to the owners hands when they go in the tank.
He gets occupied by the algae scraper of doom while I put my hands in. I don't think I have ever had any type of fish that will go nuclear on something like that in the way a 2 week in the tank maroon clownfish does. :face-with-tears-of-joy:

10/14/24: Setback :disappointed-face:
In the past couple of days, I noticed my Disbar Anthias was acting 'sluggish' and resting in the rocks a lot. There is a lot of flow in the tank and I chalked it up to maybe too much swimming? When I woke up this morning and the lights turned on, the Anthias was stuck in a MP40 and deceased. I took a chance on an Anthias and it definitely didn't play out. He was eating really well and within 2-3 days, nosedived and died.

I also switched over my Soda Ash dosing to Kalk today to begin preparing for the influx of SPS. The DOS is programmed now to begin dialing in a 500 mL/night dosage of ~98% saturated Kalkwasser solution from midnight to 10AM the next day. I'm going to dial that in the next few days while I wait on the upcoming frag delivery from @Living Reef Orlando .

Here is the current list that will be added on 10/16.

Tyree Pinky The Bear Acro
Yellow Jacket Acro
WWC Electric Melon Acro
TSA Fruity Pebbles Acro
PC Rainbow Acro
Gregs Unicorn Acro
LRO Purple Plasma Acro
JF Fender Bender Cyphastrea
WWC Bizzaro Cyphastrea
LRO Rainbow Madness Cyphastrea
JF Freak Hair Pavona
Crunch Berries Bernardpora
Blue Eye Favia

The Tail Spot Blenny cracks me up. Everywhere I go, him and the Midas Blenny are like a couple of needy Labrador dogs just wanting you to acknowledge them and pay attention to them. So far, the blennies are by far the best fish I have in all of my 3 reef tanks.
