Looked in my tank tonight and saw copepods and amphipods everywhere. All over the rockwork and crawling across the sand! I added them months ago and dosed phyto and never saw any anywhere so I have no clue what spiked their population to clearly viewable levels so fast.
I rarely see copepods anymore but there are tons of amphipods everywhere in my tank. My Melanurus Wrasse and Springeri Damselfish are fat and happy so that probably explains my copepods...

I don’t have anything in the tank that will focus too hard on them at the moment so hopefully they can build up their population to a massive amount! I plan on having multiple wrasses and hopefully a ruby dragonet if I can maintain the pod population.

I have two Springeri Damselfish and my Melanurus Wrasse. I'd like to add a Yellow Coris Wrasse and a Springeri Dottyback. My wife loves Dragonets but I'm not sure if that will ever be a possibility. I have an abundance of amphipods for sure plus the bristleworm population but keeping a Dragonet long-term with my current wrasse will be difficult enough and then if add any Flasher or Fairy Wrasses and the Yellow Coris - even without a Dottyback I'd be pushing my luck.

You're having me worried about me dragonet. I'm adding a wrasse soon and probably lost pods with the transfer. I should dose some...

The dragonet is my biggest worry on my stock list as well! I’m hoping I can find one that’s been reliably eating frozen and is healthy and fat. As much as I would like one, I think I’m in the same boat where it just wouldn’t be a possibility if I end up having too many fish that compete for pods and it won’t supplement with frozen food. I just can’t stand the thought of it withering away and starving to death!

I saw copepods last night, just not as booming of a population as the amphipods. Not saying a Dragonet won't survive your tank, just saying with 5-6 other pod eaters in my tank if it's not eating prepared foods it might not last long in my tank.

I see mine more active during feeding. I suspect he eats frozen, but can't confirm.

long term, I'm not too worried, mostly if there is a lag. I dosed a LOT of phyto last night, such that my whole living room smelled of the stuff. I will likely hit up dinkin again soon.

I ordered some Brightwell PhytoGold last night. Not sure how it will compare to live but I'ma check it out!

I've got some dragon roe coming from algae barn too with all my free stuff. It'll be fun to see the reaction to that.

Billy your tank is really big and you have a ton of rock, as long as you supplement with pods every now and then you will be fine!! You could always set up a refugium as well if you are super worried about it.

If you are not already dosing live phyto, I would start. My pod population went crazy when I started. Make sure it’s a blend of live phyto, not just one species. Try out Dinkins. I really like their products.
