There is no such thing. Excel is carbon source. Period. If you "make" your own Co2 set up dialing it in is the hard part. Each tank is different. However a good starting point is 1.0-1.5 ph drop from lights on to lights off. That's a starting point. Consistency is key or your tank will be over taken with algae. Then what are you going to dose? Tap, EI, all in one? It's a balance. If you add CO2 you want to up the lights. I use Kessils with T5 because kessil is garbage on it's own. Yeah I said it.

Soda water...I mean I guess, but really? LOL!

Anyway low tech is a lie. Good luck in what ever you do. Planted tanks are much harder to get right than reef. Nevermind I fail at reef tanks. Here is the 45 JBJ. Debaffeled using canister filtration. SB REEF planted on like 35%.

I agree good planted tanks are harder than reef tanks. Low tech works but they dont look like that!

On the other hand, high-tech tanks also don't look natural in my opinion. I get all the growth I could ever want in a low tech(ish) tank. Heavy bioload, lots of filtration, and decent lights are what I have in my 75 gallon Amazon biotope tank.

this has been truly horrific to read through..

I'm not sure you actually want any advice or help. Plantedtank.net while less active has thousands of posts where you can get a good grasp on what you are wanting to do.

Dont buy yeast co2 kits you will just make your tank an algae fest with inconsistent CO2 levels. Buy a real kit or dont use it.

Most liquid CO2 is a carbon source ex. glutaraldehyde. If you want to dose the excel route buy Metricide 14 and dont use the activator. It's about 1.5x stronger than the actual seachem product. Remember its a sterilizer so it will kill if you overdose too much.

I autodosed PPS-pro, dosed glutaraldehyde as well as ran CO2 in my high tech planted tank. I had unreal growth.

Please read through planted tank and actually figure out the path you want to take.

but, the Neo co2 kit, it lasts around 40-50 days though, and I can just refill every 20 days

Bruh... @slythy just told you why not to use yeast. It's not like they probably have years of experience and knowledge backing up their response. The same can be said for all the other folks responding here.

But at this point, do what you want to do.

Might I ask what the point of keeping tanks if you just want everything to be hands-off? The point of a hobby is to participate and be actively involved. If you want some hands off plants to grow, try a snake plant or zz plant. Or maybe a cat if you want an animal to take care of.

I grow rare tropical plants that require 85-90% humidity. I don't enjoy refilling a humidifier every 4 or 5 days, but the pleasure I derive from the gardening and appreciation of the plants more than makes up for it. The same can be said for planted tanks (I have one) or reef tanks (currently cycling)... they're not just pretty screensavers. They're mini-ecosystems, and you're in charge of the life support sytems. If you don't want to listen to the dozens of people on here telling you what not to do (and why), then I guess you can just FAFO.

just looked at reviews and stuff, people saying its really good and affordable, just no regulator though!

"Its really good and it puts the right amount of CO2 in the tank!"

There is no way it puts a high tech level of CO2 into the tank at a consistent level. Just like a reef tank a High tech tank is a balance of parameters. If you have varying CO2 you have Algae growing. They claim the "right" amount in a larger than 10g aquarium... what if its a 1000g aquarium, thats the right amount too? What if your KH is 0 or KH is 20? Its garbage marketing claims. The reason they want you to use a 10g+ aquarium is so it doesnt get high enough to kill your fish and not be liable. Its going to be very very very concervative.

"Just no regulator"

you mean the thing that gives you control over co2 levels? you should have a bubble counter and a good needle valve to control. I also believe a good dual stage regulator is necissary so you dont get an end of tank dump. Doing Yeast in a tank larger than a pico is silly to me. I've always controlled to PH.

people regulate it by putting in more or less of the co2 thingy, im gonna try it, if it doesn't work, ill say sorry(to u, im still trusting u on this) and return it :D, imma wait till probably this weekend or more to order it, and remember, this is a 10 gallon tank
