also just wanted to ask people if I should, directed towards people who have used it
IM NOT STARTING THAT OVER
if the Neo doesn't work, then I will listen to all of u, and do what u told me to(why did I even ask?)
I am going to tell you a story. But first you do you bro.......

I tried a couple methods thinking I was smart and saving money. I tried the yeast thing, Garbage! I tried another chemical reaction one like the neo better than the yeast but still not good. With both of these methods you CAN NOT regulate it at all its either too much or not enough. Do you know what happens when you use too much co2? Yup you guessed it stuff dies. (if you didnt guess it go to a planted forum and read up on it) Too little and its an algae fest or at the least just wasted money. So here I am a smart guy right? Nope. I got a sealed container, yup one with a neoprene seal to make it air or water tight. Purchased some of those cool john guest fittings and installed those in the lid (now we are cooking). Went to a local grow shop and got a bag of some bs that creates co2 for grow tents. Oh baby this is gonna be sweet! Put the bag in the tote put an air pump in the tote (see how smart I R) ran the air line to one of those cool $20 fittings and in the other one I put a 1 way check valve to allow air into the tote but not allow the co2 out (god I am soooo smart). Opps the power cord for the air pump, ehhh I'll drill a hole and fill it with silicone and a patch (macgyver sucka!). Other co2 failures I couldnt regulate it properly, hmmm Air valve worry not I got dis! You know what? it actually worked pretty good too! The co2 wasnt super consistent but another bag o bs and bam! got plenty. Lot of room in the tote it was pretty big those bags are large but heck man its only 4 times the size of my tank (actually it was probably bigger by a lot). Money spent screwing around, around $250. I could have had a really nice co2 tank set up for that, and I still ended up purchasing the paintball co2 setup...lol I R really smart! Oh and while I was sorta able to regulate it in a way, pretty sure thats how I killed my Samuri betta and all the little yellow shrimp in one night. Have never had another betta that will not kill shrimp.

WAIT ONE MINUTE. OK so you people, yeah you! Telling me my JBJ doesn't look NATURAL because it is thought out with growth requirements and settings and GASP, "CO2"!?! WHATEVER! I bet you all have mulm covered potato/pothos root laden mud boxes? And guppies? They ain't even fish unless you ask that 80 year old Walstad hack with her potted plants. ShE iZ GuPPi BrEdER NoW!

/sarcasm (except walstad, all that is true)

Kessil T5 29gal in basement that I never look at anymore. It is 50% LiQUiD CaRBOn! And 50% tears of the Walstad group.

I never said they and that are not pretty I had one. And yes I have mulm and pothos (no potatoes) I like my mulm and my pothos and my peace lilies, and my monstera, and my bog lily, and a few other things I cant think of right now. And if my fahaka wasnt such a jerk I'd have more anubias on the wood not floating at the surface. Where do you get Walstad tears? I heard like 3 tears will run a natural tank for 10,000 years!

wat
the
fluff
that is very long for my tiny brain, but thanks for that! Very helpful actually! I just find it funny, you spent all that money, and still bought a new co2 setup XD
but, what size tank do you have?

Nice hope your tank is stable now. Looks like you had some setbacks (but we all do).
yesterday I had a DEADLY ONE
so... my freshwater tank was around 70 degrees when I woke up, so I took my heater out of my saltwater and stuck it in at full blast into my freshwater, forgot about it, left it on all day, then had to water change and everything
then did the exact same thing with saltwater, but, everything is now fine :D
(im sorry)

wait sorry, I misread it :(

and the Neo was too big for an 8(JUST SAYING THAT NOW)
They used a system similar to Neo, but not Neo. Regardless, 8g system when Neo claims the system can go down to 10g isn't terrible. Many other variables come into play much like reefing. How many plants are in the system, what CO2 generation is an individual getting with the Neo system...so on and so forth. If @twentyleagues had a heavy planted 8g it may have had the CO2 needs of a 10g+ system (I don't know any of this for certain as I'm not a freshwater guy). Point is, take label claims with a grain of salt.

The point of @twentyleagues story is that after all the tinkering to try to get consistent results from the DIY solution, they could've bought multiple CO2 cylinder style solutions. Which they did anyway.

Since the system is uncontrolled, if your tank needs more gas you either increase the room temperature (which will affect your tanks and your own comfort) or buy more bottles that may or may not get the number you need. On a cylinder you simply open the valve a little more on the regulator.

This hasn't been asked yet that I see, but do you have a strict budget set? What price point is absolutely max for initial set up and what price per month is max for maintaining? With all CO2 systems you will have reoccurring expenses.

This hurts my head...

Do you not have a heater for both tanks? You're sharing a heater between both tanks?
