Ugg, must go to sleep. So much writing. 2.5 more days. I'm too old for this detritus.

Yup. Thursday is one of our three big deadlines for small business grants. Always Sept 5th, Jan 5th and Apr 5th, just about the worst dates you could have--school starting craziness, ruin you Xmas/NY break and most of the time Easter/spring break, too. Is what it is.

Another piece of bright (maybe) news today. I got a new coral!

It's TINY. Not a tiny price, though, woof! But if this one doesn't make it, seller says he's got me covered.

And! Got to use my @Reef Outfit transporter for the first time! Worked out great, and I didn't get my coworkers car soaked with saltwater, either.

Look at this lil guy!

Hope he starts to fluff up a bit. I'll have to start feeding him ROE and tiny pellets.

We hear you—some of those tiny frags sure can pack a punch when it comes to price! But we're here to make sure your investment is well-protected. Glad to know the Frag Ship kept things dry and stress-free for you (and your coworker’s car)!

We hope your coral gets super fluffy and happy in its new home!

Thanks for choosing @Reef Outfit for your transport needs, and happy reefing!

In less than stellar news, the hammer has attacked the Torch so much that 3 heads went BJD. Took it out to chop them of with the bone cutters. Mistake. Split the skeleton right down the middle. Glued the remaining heads back on the "pedestal" where the skeleton was mounted and hoping they make it through. Cipro going in tonight.

Bad hammer, very bad hammer!

So I won the CaliKid mystery coral box! Woohoo! Now I've got to get that 83g set up on the double. Let's see, what's left to do...

1. Tank lids - send sketches
2. Light mount - take last measurements, order T slots and parts
3. Stand reinforcement - take measurements, order T slots
4. Tank reinforcement - get 1/2-1" acrylic or glass "base to cover lip overhang issue; add a bottom internal eurobrace??
5. Mp40 nem guard and controller mount
6. Finish controller board
7. Inkbird Mount
8. Wire ties
9. Fan (alternatively chiller or DIY chiller)
10. Make about 100g saltwater
11. Seed sand with Fiji mud
12. Cement together the new rock island, goal: lots of SPS space; start seeding with Fiji mud
13. More TTDs...

I think I got the same long tentacle plate from the local reefer. I opted to get the bigger size though.

I learned from past mistake when I got a nickel sized plate at a coral show, and it just didn't make it because it was too small and got blown around/buried in the sand. Good that you mounted it onto a plate, I did that too late. Yours still might make it. This is a strange plate because it shows a lot of skeleton, but still inflate.

That's good to hear. Hoping it bounces back. It was apparently retracted when it was given to my coworker from being handled, but I would have imagined it would do better by now.

Mine was also very retracted and showed a lot of skeleton when I picked up. I was worried as well. But it started to inflate and tentacles extended on second day. Hope yours will recover.
Not looking good :-(

These guys are going in today. Was a fiasco getting them out of the Evo. They BOTH managed to jump into the filtration chambers. Very stressed wrasses. I'm going to put them in an acclimation box for a bit.

I'm also an idiot and put the pintail directly into the acclimation box. When it was jumping at the surface and gasping, "Oh scheisse! I forgot they were in lower salinity!" Dripping now. Only 0.002sg difference really (0.004 at first, but the DT was 0.001 over because ATOs are awesome when they work, not so much when they don't).

Ok, need some opinions @Slocke @Fishfreak2009 @tbrown and anyone else wrasse-savvy. @fishguy242

Not going well with the wrasses. Pintail is laying on its side and the pencil wrasse is freaking out every time I move a muscle. Keeps running into the walls/ceiling of the acclimation box (ignoring the tub of sand I put in for it).

Acclimation box:

Pintail when he first went in:

Pencil when he first went in (hasn't changed much):

Pintail breathing heavy, pencil freaking out:

Pintail now laying on its side, pencil still freaking out:

Would it be better to get them out of this acclimation box? Or will they end up killing themselves in an anemone? I'm worried about the pintail, but I'm also worried the pencil is going to kill himself.

They've been like this for about two hours now.

Thanks!!!

I haven’t been doing well on this very thing lately but in my opinion your best option is to turn out the lights as best you can and leave them.

Lights out and left in dark in the acclimation box overnight?

Pintail died. I put the pencil in the main tank and it is presumably in the sand now. Kicked up a fuss while getting it out of the acclimation box. What I should have done today is just move the pencil to the main tank and let it dive into the sand and left the pintail in the other tank to calm down, then transfer on a different day. Today has not been a good day. New plate is 90% dead, BTA is on the move, pintail down... I'm shutting down the "observation" tank and getting straight pre-QT'd-dump-em-right-in-tank fish from now on.

That’s awful. I’m sorry
