I Don't Like How We Ship SPS Coral, So I Build My Own SR Coral Transport System

Hi, I have been buying coral online for a long time. SPS frag cost anywhere between $5-$700. The way I received them is really poor. Sometime the bag leaks, sometime coral is sitting at the bottom of the bag. It is time for a change.

Icecap has a nice transport system but cost over $20. Other cost $11 with shipping. It is little too much.

I want to improve how I ship coral, so whoever get coral from me won't be frustrated with how it gets shipped. Plus, less DOA to deal with.

First. Pull out my 8 year old 3D printer. I got it when I was in college...been eating dust for the past 8 years.

It didn't work out , way too thick and the bottom support is bad.... really bad. So redesign..

That's it, other than some small changes to the design it works as intended.

Only thing I don't like is that I still need rubber band on the back side to secure it. Also toke 5+ hours to print one .....

What do u guys think? Do you guys agree venders and other hobbyist need to improve the way we ship coral??

Never had an issue if they are shipped inside a portion cup(end of the plug pushed through the bottom of the cup, with the coral inside the cup).

How much more is that to likely add to shipping? OOh and that glass jar would break, might want to consider something like a peanut butter jars that is plastic.

Totally agree, not selling it at the moment. I am only using this to ship out coral frags.

Yeah it's plastic jar. PET material not heavy, water leak tested. But I agree, ship with bags will definitely be lighter and cost less.

There are number of times coral fall out of portion cups when I received my shipment. Most of the time it works, but not good enough.

Would it make sense to try and design one with some sort of cage like structure around it that could be used in plastic bags? Like put frags in your current design upside down and into a bag, the legs would then prevent the frag from touching the bag.

That's harder to design...in my opinion.
Also most bags are not strong enough to support a system like that.
Cool idea though.

Plastic jar cost $1.5 each. I mean when a frag cost over $100 invest in a bit on transport system is not that bad.
Eco friendly part I would say, when we get in plastic bags we put the bags in trash. When we get it in a transport system, we will reuse them to bring coral back form shows or to ship coral out. So maybe it's better for the environment since we could reuse them again and again.

Building an Obsession has been making a somewhat larger version and also an insulated version for awhile. I've used both and they are good products. Their retail is pricey, however.
