Oh seems like we have the same tank size! Can you share a picture of you tank? Would love to see how it looks :)

How often does the carpenter wrasse flash? Do let me know! And also how does it look like under blue light?

Flasher flashes a lot more than fairies. I use mirror a lot and they flashes with mirror.
I think the mirror really mimics natural territory disputes in the wild. I think it really help the wrasses stay colorful.
Bắt my tank is a 329.
Initially when I added the Blue throat early, I have to return it because there were constant fishing with my aquamarine. They were very evenly match and neither would give up. When I added it the second time , a much smaller Blue throat he get along with other wrasse. He eventually be one the alpha wrasse of the tank.
I do think that the problem is having agressive and evenly match wrasses rather than having agressive species at lease in my large tank with the large numbers of wrasses.

BTW my wrasses show off so I can show them off :)
Sorry in spamming your thread with pictures.
Ah I see that makes sense! How often do you use a mirror and how big is it? Then I can also try using it. Like how many times a day and how many times a week? Also for how long?
Noooo don’t be sorry, these wrasses are really beautiful man, it’s like a treat for the eyes!

I like flashers and fairies (and all wrasses), but if I really had to choose, I’d probably have a preference for fairies. Not because of anything wrong with flashers, but just because I thinks there’s more variety and a little longer lifespan on fairies, and there’s something really cool about the “presence” a fully developed fairy has in a tank.

Which fish would I suggest? It depends on budget and preference for colors/look. A 150g tank means you have a lot of options. A good place to start would probably be to find a species that makes you say “oh, I have to have that” and then build a compatible stocking list around that. If had to recommend a specific species, I’m really partial to Pintail faries (they are peaceful and wimpy though). After all these years, I still think they provide some of the best “wow” for the money. And there’s colorful flashers that can be had for <$100, and I like the Carpenter’s.

And @OrionN suggestion about the mirror is awesome. I had never used a mirror for wrasses, only to mitigate tang aggression in the past. I now put the mirror up for “20 minutes of hate” a couple times a week to get the wrasses’ blood pumping. My exquisite is particularly responsive. It’s awesome.

I really like the Naoko Fairy Wrasse and Blue Throated Fairy wrasse which is where the problem starts -_- because it’s kinda hard to keep both of these together, so now I’m kinda thinking of changing up my list a bit.

Yellow Coris
Naoko
Earmuff
Radiant
Blue Throat Fairy
Red Head Solon

I currently have the Coris and Blue throat, I have the option to sell the blue throat right now as I have someone who really wants it but then again I want to try keeping it with the naoko. So kind of debating on that. I may choose between the radiant and red head Solon, do help me choose between that! I may get a leopard wrasse later down the line, I have an ornate leopard right now but I’ll be removing that as well, I’m hoping to get a choats red leopard as I really love how they look although they are more difficult.

Yellow Coris
It's not a Coris. That’s an incorrect name. Coris wrasse are bigger, very multicolored, and not reef-safe. This is my Coris wrasse, the galaxy wrasse, Coris gaimard (that some people call the red Coris wrasse). Yes, I’m being pedantic :face-with-tears-of-joy: , but I also want to show off some wrasse photos.

Oh it’s not called a yellow Coris? Can you correct me and tell me the right name? I’m happy to learn :)

That is a beautiful fish! I absolutely love how the juvenile and adult red Coris looks, but they get really big and can attack inverts. I’ve also heard that they can rearrange rocks (idk if that’s true tho). Or else I would have loved to get one!

It’s a Halichoeres rather than a Coris, Halichoeres chrysus. Yellow wrasse, canary wrasse, yellow pig wrasse (Halichoeres translates to “salt pig”), all are good names. Though banana wrasse is also a potential banana skin as many Thalassoma wrasse are called banana wrasse especially Thalassoma lutescens which is a big mean fish.

Yes, Coris gaimard can get big and eat inverts and move rocks but seeing as I have a dragon wrasse I have bigger issues:

Not fairies but my male and female leopards. Both started out as females and then one turned male. The male is about 4.5”. I also have a yellow coris.

I forgot to snap a photo of my Marinda at the shop but I’ll probably get one tomorrow with my other 2 new wrasses.

I’m not the best with leopard wrasse names, I currently have an ornate, which one is this? I really like how the female looks! If I get one like this will it stay a female or turn into a male in the absence of one?

That’s the meleagris or white leopard
