I had read about this company a while back, but I was just reminded about it due to the media attention it is getting. Basically it started out with a few guys creating a product called "reef balls" that are used in areas where the reefs are deteriorating or have sustained damage. It gives the coral and anchor point for new growth. I would suggest reading the story here. I have talked to my wife about it, and I've decided to go with this as my future plan.

The website is: www.eternalreefs.com

Take care,

I have been reading about coral balls for quite a while now. They are being used in Puerto Rico. Also everyone watch Feb 12 on the weather channel for I think it is called Wild Reefs. It is about building a man made reef 16 miles off the Alabama coast. I have been also watching some wonderful coral shows on the nature channel. They would take an area of the world and spend 30 minutes filming and explaining the corals, fish, etc in that area. It has been amazing. My sister turned me on to it and I loved every minute!! On Culebra PR, there are several coral restoration projects going on. We were able to see several while diving and snorkeling. Local schoolkids are involved. You might want to check out Coralations website. Coralations is run by a great gal named Marianne Lucking. I have met her a few times on Culebra.

Marcus, when you say your future plan, what do you mean?

I just noticed this. We just got back from a concert that was over 4 hours long in Nashville.

My ashes will be mixed with one of the memorial structures and then be covered with coral.

"If you build it, he will come" (Field of Dreams)
I saw a segment of these concrete balls put on the ocean floor and immediately populated by fish, holes plugged by frags from hobbyists, in Bali of all places. There are a lot of places on our coast we reefers can make a difference. We can give back to nature,Tank raised specimens are hardier anyway

My aging memory was failing me. LOL. It is the one called Wild Deep on Animal Planet that I actually watched.
I am excited about watching the one about building the manmade reef off the AL coast. We dive at least once a year out of Destin FL wih Scubatech and dive many different man made structures including airplanes, barges, old Destin bridge rubble, etc. Heading back to dive with them June 29 for two weeks and again for a week, the week before Labor Day. I have started my countdown. I live to dive!!! Been diving since 1977!!!
