every generation says the same thing. The new generation will say the same thing 20 years from now. You have your own tastes, so will the new gen, no one cares

Im the same age group as you guys, born in the early 70’s. Also work in the music industry so I guess that help a little in finding something good. It’s out there, just got to search for it.
Im iTunes heavy as I haven’t really graduated to Pandora or whatever streaming site is big right now. But Tool is available online in ITunes. They opened the gates just before the new album released.
Listening to the newest Tool album as I type this. Thanks so much man.

Both. Been doing this since 1983 - semi retired these days but do the occasional "one offs" or short runs. Reefing keeps me grounded and sane.
Started well before me, my first run was in 2003. Speaking of changes... and now being the old guy on the crew..

Im old school. I had 500,000 songs before apple did. Not main stream stuff. Very little was played on the radio. I was just 1 person they were a company. I find it hard to listen to the same songs more than a few times.
With that being said I dont think music has died. A few things happen. Peoples tastes evolve, so do the artists. Sure you are going to have the die hard AC/DC fan that believes it is the best in the west, but for most people they move on to new artists playing similar styles. Right now there is tons of new stuff out there. Its a bit hard to find exactly what you want because of the movement to have one company controlling everything. When independent music venues were by a certain company ( not to be named ) it became hard for smaller independent artists to get exposure unless they signed the contract giving up rights to everything they did. No contract then no place to play live. No more 14 year old kids called green day playing at 924 gilman for free.......Then we have copyrights............ I will quit my rant now before I offend too many....

Absolutely!
There is some good stuff out there, even though not mainstream anymore. Over the last couple of years I’ve become a huge Rival Sons fan. Amazing live..

Music doesn’t seem to be as important to the youngest generations right now. They are more attracted to other types of media like games, social media, streaming services, ect.

I can’t say I miss it much but even the majority of overly load, street thumping cars are gone. Music today is no longer in the forefront of entertainment. The stuff today better fits in the background while something else more important is going on. Ever ask yourself why elevator music has no words, they wouldn’t matter much anyway in that setting. It’s the same thing today.

That’s old school Hawaiian music. I wasn’t a big Hawaiian music fan growing up in Hawaii but I liked them. Learned to play their stuff on ukulele. I was big into reggae and ska around then. Played in a horrible ska band when I was 13 or 14.

Heck yes to both reggae and ska!!! Ska is what got me into big band swing music.

What did you play?

As this plays out, I’m listening and Tool has kept their same formula and doesn’t fail. I’d love to sit at a drum set and try to keep up. Seriously, Danny kills it.

I play guitar. Reggae and ska is fun for me. But I mostly played in punk bands. I did lots of odd gigs here and there. Birthday parties in Aiea. Gigs at pink flamingo in Waikiki. Some downtown Honolulu shows. Had the time of my life then.

The business of touring has changed so much these days, many of my buds who I've worked w/in the past that are still at it full time, wear many hats now on the crew(s), & get paid the same or less. The "bean-counters" ruined touring.
