what punk bands did you play? i will be 45 in 3 weeks and still into it! actually went to punk hardcore show last night....
I played in super junk punk bands. We were horrible but everyone loved us. Afterwards I met a guy who was a guitar player in a band called Treacherous Jaywalkers from the Bay Area. He played guitar for them. They even opened for Nirvana. He helped me record some music videos. I’ll never share them here. Well, maybe one day.

I caught myself listening to Underoath’s hits the other day, brought back memories.

My music tastes have evolved a bunch since my hardcore days.

If you liked the cure, check out frightened rabbit, Robert Smith was a fab of them
Oh man. I love underoath. They got really hardcore which was ok but I love they’re only chasing safety the most.

What do you think of Tool's new album?
I’ve never listened to it. Tool won’t let their music onto online platforms. I’ve heard it’s good but it’s something I’d like to hear. Ænima and Lateralus will never be topped in my book.

I love music from the 70’s 80’s 90’s and early 2000’s. Smashing pumpkins, The Cure, Tool, At The Drive In, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, Thrice, to name a few. But I struggle to find anything in the past 10-15 years that grabs me. I have an Apple Music account and I can’t find anything to listen to. Maybe I’m getting old (probably). Did music go downhill or am I just aging? ;Meh
I saw Thrice when they were playing at local churches in SoCal for like 50 kids... lol... i remember buying their first cd, “Identity Crisis” for $5... Dustin signed it for me... That was back in 1999-2000ish... I nearly forgot about those dudes until recently going to a Bring Me The Horizon show and Thrice opened up for them... blew my mind... had no idea they were still writing stuff... Liked their old stuff alot from the timeline you gave though, 2000s... hahaha

I don't know what counts for online platforms, but you can listen to the whole album on youtube. It was a long time coming, and for me it didn't disappoint.

They’re newer stuff is completely brilliant. They changed a lot. They went through a weird phase and then got back to writing some awesome stuff.

I think the move to more pop sounding music is technology based more than anything else.
Never before could one take apart a song with ai and determine slight changes in melody. With lyrics the worlds greatest poets are now a tap away for inspiration.

“Oh, lift me as a wave, a leaf, a cloud! I fall upon the thorns of life! I bleed!” Shelley

Yeah. I usually like to listen to music on the go and YouTube complicates that’s. Is the new stuff good in your opinion? I’ll have to have a go if so.

It’s still out there, it’s just not as main stream as it used to be. But I think that’s something amazing about the bandcamp, Spotify, etc. era. I can be a die hard fan of a band from across the planet with 1k monthly streams.

I guess there’s also a flip side to this in that you can fall in love with a “new” band that’s been dead for 10 years.

Bring Me The Horizon is a perfect example of this... deathcore to popcore... lol... my favorite band right now... They said exactly what you said... they had to evolve their music style to broaden their fanbase... Atreyu did the samething along with Amity Affliction
