DAILY QUESTION: How long have you been growing corals?

DQ1- Officially had my tank since 2020. But due to moving and losing almost everything I’ve been growing these corals since February!!

Love the new polyps on my Gonis.
Love new heads on bowers and acans!

Why?
New polyps on gonis are not the same color as mature polyps and the new polyps give you more fluff and more flow!
Acans and bowers- love watching the color development

I’ve only had the one. AI Prime 16hd. Although I did just switch one side to a AI hydra 32….soo I don’t have an option really

DAILY QUESTION: How do you handle coral fragging in your tank? Are you a frequent fragger? Occasional fragger? Or only when you have to prune?

For zoas I usually let them grow out on the frag plug they came on while sitting on my frag rack. Then I take half of that and glue it somewhere in the tank allowing the other half to grow for selling purposes.

Haven’t fragged anything else. Would imagine most of my LPS would be easier to drag out of the water??? Not to the point of knowing yet

DAILY QUESTION: What is your approach to dosing calcium and alkalinity? Do you dose any other elements?

I recently started using AF Lab Component Pro. I’m technically dosing half the recommended (12ml) on alk (component 2) and calcium (component 1) and for the mag I’m dosing 1/4 (component 3). I also dose 1ml of my own manganese.

I dose tropic marin calsocarb. I've got my doser dialed in and test every week to week and a half to see if I need to do any adjusting

Increasing my pH by adding some sodium hydroxide solution to my alkalinity supplement has given me the biggest increase in coral growth.

I’ve had “reef” tanks off and on for about 25 years, although I’ve never really tried keeping anything other than beginner corals until the last 4 years or so.

For me it would probably be acropora (which is a genus, but I assume you don’t actually mean a specific species) because of the huge selection of different colors. Plus they’re usually harder to keep so it’s more of an accomplishment when getting them to thrive, which I’ve had mixed success with.

I’ve had my most success with metal halides, however I currently use led because of the energy and heat that comes along with halides.

Only when I have to prune do I cut them back.
