DAILY QUESTION: What has been the best lighting setup you've used for growing corals? Why do you like this one?

Ive used kessils 360s and xr15 g5. I prefer the kessils, but I plan to add t5s to the mix soon.

I have a habit of breaking coral when I put my hands in the tank.

I will frag when I'm swapping with another hobbyist or have one running amuk for store credit.

I only buy from a few dealers that I mostly trust and I still dip all corals in Bayer before adding them to my tank.

I might dip some. But off the most part any more I have fish that eat pests. I keep an eye out and haven't been burned yet through my apathy.

Daily Question 8: depends on what im dipping for. For pests I'll either use coral rx or bayer. iodine bath after fragging to prevent anything. Peroxide to get rid of any unwanted algae

Bayer and CoralRX, rinse in saltwater and into QT Tank #2. Frag(s) stay in QT for 6 weeks

I try to inspect all my fish and only buy healthy looking fish. Unfortunately disease sometimes gets into the tanks anyway.

Heavy visual inspections with magnifying glasses and dipping everything that comes in with Bayer, KCl or seachem’s dip

DAILY QUESTION: How do you acclimate new corals to your tank?

Ummm, no, no I did not.


So acclimation involves floating for 20mins to when I remember there are corals floating.

Then stressing and shocking them all out via a dip (not always really vendor and coral ).

Then placing in tank on frag rack or where I hope they may be happy (which they probably won’t so I’ll be back to move them the next day- yeah I know no patients).

I'm a humble man - so far, just that things are growing. I have a strat polyp growing, my torches are happy, and I'm less than a year into it. So - success so far is my rewarding accomplishment.

Euphyllia - the beauty.
