I added 2ml of copper power and it should of bumped the coop per a bit instead it's .70 still.
I'm going to put in another 2ml
So total 23.6ml
I should be closer to 1.0ppm

Something that could possibly be absorbing copper?

Both aragonite and silica sand will react with the copper. I have no idea how much tbh. I think someone had a thread on aragonite absorption somewhere. Is this for ich? If for ich perhaps TTM instead for the wrasse?

I'm not worry about ich more on velvet as ich already came in to my system through a frag. Haven't lost a dish due to ich. Feeding them fat.

Scare off velvet uronema and Brook

I took the first copper test today using Hanna Checker. Target is 0.54-0.56 and tester reads 0.48. That's pretty accurate, given that I have two cups of sand, 12 Marine Pure cubes and 2 sponge filters, I'd assume there is a little absorption

Yes pretty darn close, thank you for contributing. If you don't mind me asking, what product are you dosing, how many ml, into how many gallons?

I just did a WC tonight, on my QT. I'm going to wait a few days to check it knowing how accurate it's been. Plus I'm LOW on reagents.

Just wondering how you added the copper to the tank and how long after adding before you tested the water? Did you add directly to the tank, mix beforehand in a cup and pour solution directly into the tank, add to the HOB filter chamber? And how long after adding the copper did you wait before testing. The reason I ask is that depending on how the copper is added to the tank, it might take a little while before it mixes totally in the water column. Could the reading be off because the copper was not dispersed well yet? For my piece of mind, I'd probably check again in a half hour or so before adding more copper just to be sure I was not overdosing. You can always ramp up copper then if you're still low.

I'm using Copper Power. I've added 6ml into roughly 18.5 gallons water. I added Copper directly to the tank and waited about an hour to check for concentration.

I always dose directly into tank and spread it across the area where my powerhead makes flow. I test within a minute or two usually, with results as expected. If you were to dose into hob, I don't know how long you'd need to wait.

Thanks for providing that info. I agree with your math as well. Be interesting to see your next test.

I had Coppersafe & API kit, killed my last batch of fish in QT after 3 days in Copper. Thanks to your finding and everyone else contributions, now I switched to CopperPower and havent seen negative effects so far. I have 8 fish in 20g long, well so far so good...

Yeah, hmmmm that sounds all too familiar. Well tomorrow makes 1 week of my batch at the theraputic level. Haven't lost any yet since I started dosing copper. It's great. I think we are on to something here my friend!

Just tested my reader on 1/2 gallon of fresh saltwater using 29.57ml /20 gallon from copper power instruction the reader shows 1.92ppm so taking this reading to what I tested yesterday of my tank 0.79 @ 23.6ml / 40gallon is ~ 1.03ppm copper. In my quarantine tank. Now should I continue using this conversion as my reader seems to be off a bit.

Do you have the calibration check fluid for the tester?

Yup. Tester reads 1.95 ppm. Reference

Ok, if your test on a half gallon is accurate, and your bottle concentration is truly 1.92ppm, then my math comes up to .77ppm is where you should be at in your QT with 23.6ml dosed.

1.92ppm concentration divided by the 59ml it takes to dose your QT as instructed. Multiply that by the 23.6ml you have dosed =.768ppm

1.92/59*23.6=.768
Make sense?

Yeah so the question is do I trust the tester ppm level or the stated on copper power instructions of 29.56ml/20gallon to get 2.5ppm?
