Where did you get these clamps? I may get some out or paranoia . . .
It's the sad reality. I had the clamp idea planted in my head here a year ago by another reefer who's tank failed. It was his and others posts and pics that made me reach out to Red Sea. "No issue we can see" they said. Well..can you see it now?I don’t see a problem.
Red Sea sells tanks that need to be clamped
Innovative Marine forces you to buy their stand which flexes and wobbles and needs to be reinforced.
Seems like standard corner cutting business practice here
Home Depot. 36" clamps. Dewalt. $30 each
I said the same thing. I caught it 5 mins in because I was in the studio. I've been out of the country before for 10+ days. Yes I have an Apex and a Blink camera on it. But from 1400+ miles away....Another one gone…
Glad you were around to clamp it. Imagine if it popped a seam when you were sleeping!
I could. I suppose I could make this all work in that cabinet if there were some pass through holes from right to left. However..we are still talking rimless glass. Isn't this apples and apples?@Cranie
Could you get by with a 48x20x20?
I got a connection with CurrentUSA and can get forum members:
83 g rimless tank
48x20x20
Low iron glass on 3 sides, rear painted black
Ext ghost overflow
Herbie drain
26g custom glass sump
9g slide out acrylic Gravity ato
Overbuilt stand - handmade by cabinet maker in Cali, marine grade plywood and not particle board crap, whole thing skinned inside and out in marine grade waterproof laminate
4 vertical, full length, load bearing supports (most companies use 2-3)
Plumbing kit precut
Shipping to your driveway
1600$
Buy at least one of the long clamps. It will save the day WHEN it happens.Wow, I am so sorry to hear about the failure; that is discouraging. My main display is a Red Sea, and I often think about the nightmare that would ensue if/when it failed.
The Cadlights glass is only 20 inches tallIsn't this apples and apples?
Makes no sense to me. People shouldn't buy them NEW based on the imminent failure. There are 3 new leaking Red Sea tanks for sale this week in my area. Seeing them more and more.
This naive fellow thinks he can get some to pay $1000 to move their 240g Red Sea tank….jist so they can seal it themselves!
I don’t get why people are lying top dollar for these tanks still. They don’t look that much better than rimmed tanks. It’s the contents that matter.

How tall is the Red Sea glass?

There is at least one pass through I know off but more could be addedI could. I suppose I could make this all work in that cabinet if there were some pass through holes from right to left. However..we are still talking rimless glass. Isn't this apples and apples?
+1 Bigtime. I just put these on my list of things to buy. I love this site. SO many great oddball suggestions! In all seriousness, you are lucky you had those clamps. I have a rimless build going on and while I have no reason to expect a seam failure, it can happen to any brand. I will be adding these clamps to my build equipment list. If I ever was in your situation, I currently do not have any means to do what you did to buy time. 50$ is a small investment and I could use them for other projects.
My Red Sea failed after 3. Unless they overdesigned the actual seals there's no guarantee. The failure point isn't in the stands themselves as they ARE solidly built. It's the construction and I'm sure rimless doesn't help. We're talking a full, water only, tank is 734 lbs pressing down and outwards in cycles depending on flow shifts. They all need to design for WELL over that.I know CurrentUSA leak tested these 2+years before going to market, and overdesigned them. The stand especially.
This cabinet was over engineered for strength, and to prevent any sagging or flex.
I have sent an inquiry to Tenecor for a tank only that will fit on my current solid stand (Red Sea DO build those well). Also sent for a quote from Waterbox. Same dimensions but Eurobraced, with Aluminum, and 45 Deg joints. My last tank was a red see reefer, now I have a 300 gallon acrylic from tenecor, no seams to worry about, only 250 pounds easy to move.
After this disaster is solved consider acrylic every glass tank I have ever had ended up with scratches with acrylic you can fix it at least.
Wish you luck in your tank recovery read the sand rinsing thread it details lots of people successful tank moves and what to do. You will probably end up moving everything twice once to a Rubbermaid 150 or 300 gallon stock tank and once into a new tank.
Glass seams always fail eventually some at 3 years some at 20 years
The Elos rimless tankHow many companies out there are making rimless glass tanks
Your tomatoes look like they're smiling. The Elos rimless tank
Was the design that was 'stolen' by virtually everyone who makes rimless tanks now
But Elos used a special adhesive silicon. Thicker glass, and thicker silicone bonds
And shorter tank walls
Than those who copied them
And sold them at half the Elos price(Red Sea specifically)
Putting Elos out of business, essentially. I mean you can buy one now, but good luck
Red Sea also messed up on the structural integrity of their long tanks, and the long stands that went with them
Red Sea tanks previous were all heavily rimmed
We don't speak about another man's tomatoes hereYour tomatoes look like they're smiling.
