Corals are expensive for many reasons

A large factor is the price to bring in corals these days, the price per KG for cargo has gone nuts and can easily have $800 in shipping costs. Say an avg box has 20 corals, 5 may not make it, 5 may be non desirable corals you got to fill the box. You don’t always get ever coral you want on the trans ship list, so you have 10 good corals that still cost money and when you factor in another $80 per piece in shipping then you can still have $$$ in a mari piece.

Corals grow slow especially starting from a small frag. Sure there’s corals that grow like weeds but not many high end corals grow like that.

Plus the price of equipment, if I was to do new lighting on one system alone I’d have $15k in radions and reef brites. People don’t understand the cost for vendors to set up large systems and farms.

Plus the time and effort, It takes time to cook and aquaculture corals especially Acropora into captivity coloration
