Ok, just double checking. I’m definitely lacking when it comes to math.

I always forget what calculator to use when it comes to “percent change” vs “precent difference.” It also seems to generate different values when the numbers are flipped around in the calculators. Super confusing.

Does anybody have a better place to look up molar mass vs just doing a Google search.?

Multiply the ppm by 0.7
Exactly. About 32% less for ammonium chloride, but the calculator will work with ammonium bicarbonate almost perfectly as you can see the molar mass is almost identical between ammonium bicarbonate and ammonium nitrate.

Makes sense, I didn't catch the ammonium nitrate vs. Bicarbonate part..

From Randy:

“To add 0.1 mg/L ammonia to an aquarium, you would need to add 2.3 mL of either stock solution to a 100 L ”

80 gallon = ~300L

So 0.1 x 10/2.3 x 100/300 = ~0.15ppm

Or…make your own custom stock solution where you can tweak your mL amount for daily dosing, and know exactly the ppm of product going in at X amount of mL’s.

For example, for your 80/G volume I’d make a solution like this for ammonium bicarbonate, and dose about 50-100x daily throughout the day so there was a consistent supply of ammonia available.

I’m currently dosing 0.1ppm twice a day (solution mixed at 35g NH4HCO3 to 1000ml RODI, 5ml dosed to 100g water volume). So far I’m not seeing NO3 increase much after 4 days of dosing regime. But then, I have chaeto going for 14 hours each night to help keep PO4 managed which in turn is sucking up the NO3 to near undetectable.

I’d consider adding another dose or two daily. :)

Definitely! Wanted to see how things reacted before bumping it up.

I’ve noticed that there is a difference in NO3 between dosing X ml in a single dose or two doses and X ml in multiple doses.

It seems like you can dose more ammonia before NO3 shows up if you dose it multiple times.

That seems sensible. Organisms can only take up so much in a short period of time.
