I was looking through threads and thinking about all the different corals and remembering all the most popular corals back in the day and it got me wondering!

What are the HOTTEST corals in the hobby right now?

Otherwise, @Troylee is probably on to something.

Softies seem to be making a comeback in my area. But usually whatever is the most colorful. Zoas and torches are always popular. Sticks are popular amongst the stickheads, but not usually mainstream.

by “hot” do you mean popular or ridiculously priced and collectors are willing to pay top dollar…
one the one hand there is a unit sales component and otoh there is a price demand component …

Question being asked it Are Walt Disneys hot in terms of numbers or in terms of profit margins?

Holy grail torch, bounce and jaw breaker mushrooms, designer zoas such as strat, gmk, great owl. I’d say the only thing that’s changed is 10 years ago you couldn’t give a hammer away and now petco charges $75 for a single bi color head lol.. all the old school sticks still up there also. Purple monster, Oregon tort, etc etc

I think revenue is down everywhere, I am not sure there is really a hotness right now. I've heard some guys in Canada are down as much as 50% YOY, which is a continuation of a trend from the year before.

Closest thing I can think of are "ultra LPS" in general, like micromussa. Scolys have gone way down from last year, but lords were selling like hotcakes in all the booths at the last coral expo.

I think there is still a lot of demand for RFAs too but very hard to find in Canada.

My local LFS told me zoa demand is way down, and in fact many of the pure zoa guys are starting to branch out due to low demand. Prices sure aren't going down!

A lot of vendors in Canada have been blowing out overstock sticks - great for me, but there must be a bit of a downturn in demand.

It’s true that sometimes by raising the price, it also raises demand. I’ve seen it first hand by trying to sell low or give coral away. Some people squint when they see “free” or “$5” ,but when priced around what the market is, they seem to move faster. I guess perceived value has a lot to do with the market versus actual value.

I have to fight against this constantly. Some super high-end acros in my tank don't look as nice as my cheaper ones. I must constantly remind myself that it's not about the price, but rather what what I prefer. They are not always the same.

I think anything that has contrasting bright colors will be in demand. This goes for all species of corals

Gonipora I also think is in demand now. Amazeballs is almost impossible to find for less than $400 for a sub 1” frag

I thought we'd have already hit the "Fiji corals or bust" stage by now honestly. But it still seems to be the same Torches, Acros and Scolies it has been for a while.
