I have some massive colonies of GSP which while I love them, I don’t want them to be the only thing.

I am wondering if I were to place some corals, such as Hammers or Torches directly on the existing growth, what would happen in practice. Chat GTP says Euphilia will theoretically most likely win, but couldn’t predict the outcome in practice.

I imagine the euphyllia would triumph but bearing in mind the monetary value of some of these things, would you want to risk it?
Other side of the argument is that GSP is virtually bombproof so could pull back & regroup.
I've moved my euphyllia several times & now keep them mounted on large tiles for this very reason.
It was green paly's in my case.

It’s GSPs resilience after losing ground to Euphyilia that I am counting on/hoping for, GSP is cheap, and an experimental hammer isn’t too expensive if the consensus is I will have to find out for myself.

Doesn’t have to be a Euphyilia, Chat GPT suggested a few other winners, like:

Galaxea Coral (Galaxea fascicularis)
Favites Coral (War Coral)
Mushroom Corals (Discosoma sp. and Rhodactis sp.)
Hydnophora Coral

If you want total victory against the GSP go with Galaxea. Vicious brutes they are :grimacing-face:

They were encroaching a little too aggressively & the euphyllia didn't seem to be putting out sweepers etc so I moved it

I've got a big (for my tank) chunk of gsp in my sandbed, I put a torch next to it when I was doing some re-arranging and didn't get around to moving it away for a while. The side of the gsp facing the torch is closed and the other side is trying to grow across the sand...so based on that experience I'd say it'll work a treat! Not sure where on the scale of cruelty it lies but I'm sure we'll find out in a min or two...

Also bubble corals surpriseingly pack quite a punch, and their sweepers are astonishingly long! i think they make a great centrepiece too

Coral warfare is something that happens in nature, what I am wanting is balance rather than obliteration, slightly less cruel than nature would be…

Thanks for the suggestions!

I personally think it's a great idea. Just another layer of interest. I'm seeing it like complimentary gardening, not actually necessary, but better than ignorance...
