They have four different colors.Looks like salt and pepper, not black. The CaribSea Hawaiian that is about 80% black is magnetic. I know, I have two bags in the garage.
I guess collecting in winter would be best.

If you guys check out Paul B’s thread he goes and collects mud from in and around Long Island, NY to add to his tank. Does it yearly. He’s looking for all the microfauna that comes along with it I believe. It ain’t killed his tank at 40+ years.
it’s better to ask for forgiveness than permission.
BE Careful!! You may want to read up on his collection methods. Not sure I’d just grab from any old location. It’s been a while since I read most of his thread but if memory serves he would go off the beaten path to avoid oil/gasoline and the like from say a nearby marina. I think he went to certain tide pools that he’s familiar with and knows they’re relatively clean. Some of those in land water ways I remember golfing next to in Myrtle Beach for instance smelled and looked pretty rank.
He’s a looker for sure. Actually thought i lost him. He vanished for a few days then re-appeared a couple days into Metro treatment. Im guessing he’s feeling a bit better ;Doctor
Wrasses are some gorgeous fish.
Turtle, what filters do you have in your RODI? I know many municipalities have a high metal content through their water supply. Not harmful to humans, but definitely harmful to fish. Some of these can ONLY be removed by a special filter.
