TANK TALK: Manual feeding is an important activity by which to observe and evaluate all the animals in your care. Tell us about your feeding routine. Did you know the Plank mixing chamber is a convenient means to manually feed frozen food? What are your thoughts or questions concerning the balance between manual and automatic feeding?
I feed manually with tank water so pellets sink in the morning and feed frozen at night.

The balance is between manual and automatic is portioning out how much goes into the tank. Thats the biggest concern for me

I feed homemade frozen in the evening. Usually around 830. I 3d printed a feeding cup to hold everything in place, and the fish learned very quickly where it is. It's also right over my gyre mad the return nozzle, so anything that doesn't get eaten out of the cup gets broadcast through the tank.

This is exactly how i use it! Manual feeding morning and dinner. Plank for small in-between feeding or if im rushed and miss a manual feeding.
If i switch to only auto feeding my fish wouldn't like me anymore. They would worship the black pipe instead.

My clowns don't have a nem, so they have taken to the hammers. As yet the hammers haven't seemed to mind.

Also, just after the upgrade, the hawkfish and the dragonette would play together. dragonette would swim up over the hawk and then drift back down onto him. the hawk was very careful to put his dorsal fin down.

We had a Talbots damsel in our tank and always heard that damsels were a**holes. this one was surprisingly calm. It actually got bullied by our bicolor Blenny. I would love to get another one, or three, and add it to the tank, just not now (would be too much). We weren’t expecting our neon blue goby to be a cleaner-type fish as in he likes to swim on the sides of our fish and ‘clean’ them. It’s always fun to watch him do that :)

My plan was to manual feed as much as possible. I find manually feeding to be relaxing and enjoyable to watch your fishes. If I ever got an auto feeder, it would be for when I'm away only. I didn't think of using the Plank mixing chamber to manually feed frozen food. Now that I know, I would definitely use the Plank to manually feed also.

I don't have the opportunity as of yet to experience fish and coral combinations. When I do, I hope I can have success stories as many others I've read.

I soak anything I feed in tank water in a shot glass (don't do shots at my house) for about 5 to 10 minutes and then use a turkey baster. I like to get some down low where the watchman and pistol live. I've never used an uatomatic feeder, but I would love to learn... HINT HINT NUDGE NUDGE

I don't know why they like the red monti setosa so much, but it's become the throne of my tailspot blenny and the wrasses congregate around it.

I auto feed 4 times daily to keep the Foxface and Wrasses fat and happy but I always manually feed phyto and frozen once or twice a week and nori sheets frequently.

I think automatic feeders are definitely a great option for those high metabolism fish but they require frequent checks to make sure they're working and dispensing properly and to ensure the food stay at a good level and dry.

My Blue Chromis lives in my Birdsnest. It's rather interesting because anytime he feels threatened or as the lights are dimming, he swims over and plops in the middle of the coral.

My Clowns refuse to be hosted by the Nems, but their cousin loves being hosted by the Nest.

Tailspot blenny and my zoas. Im assuming they are soft? He loves to lay on the pile of zoas.
Foxface and wrasse. Fox tears and shakes the algea off the rocks. The wrasse will follow him around and eat the little stirred up bits. Its neat to watch them holdhands through the tank.

I feed the tank twice a day once at first light with frozen food and nori sheet. I see how the fish and corals are doing. And see how clean the tank looks. I put the frozen food in the plank that I have. It works great. Later afternoon I feed half a sheet of nori and frozen food. The plankfeeder feeds the tank 3 additional times. All of this feeding allows me to have multiple angels in my mixed reef tank without any nipping.

I have a 100 gallon reef tank full of corals and fish. I feed a homemade frozen concoction every day. While on vacation, I hate using the typical auto feeders I have found at stores or on line. They either do not work or dump way too much food all at once. The plank seems like the perfect design. I modeled and 3D printed my own feeder based on photos I saw of the plank and it worked well. A real plank would give me piece of mind wile away.

My clowns really enjoyed the frammer. They sleep in a barnacle but during the day they’d play in the other.

I have a new IM ext 200 and would love to have the lid and feeder to top it off. I want to have some anthias and the feeder would work great for them. And the lid would keep my wrasse in.

This lid and auto feeder will be a great addition to my Reef Savvy tank, I've deemed the Savvy260. After the holidays I will be setting it up and starting my build tread on here. Good luck to all the entrants.
