+1 on this. Makes it tricky to try and cure fish while also not harming coral/inverts or other susceptible fish. Especially when you don’t have a QTA cure for fish diseases that didn't kill everything else in the tank!
Too many products have to be dosed in a QT tank which means removing all the potentially affected fish. That's stressful on the fish and can cause harm in and of itself. I'd much rather do "Home Care" style treatment but don't want all of my corals and inverts to be harmed in the process.
Oh geez! That's a loaded question. As an ignorant newbie...it's hard to know what I don't know. Someone with 20 or 30 years of experience will likely answer differently than me.TANK TALK: If there was one thing/product you wish existed in the hobby but doesn't right now, what would it be and why?
If we're talking science fiction, an instant at home ICP+ test (+ meaning testing for all sorts of other stuff).
I would be happy if it just kicked it off into my tank, it can thaw in the tankfrozen food feeder that you can load up keep food frozen that will thaw it and dispense

I wish there was a way to keep Octopi for more than 1-2 years in captivity. Maybe a octopus proof tank.TANK TALK: If there was one thing/product you wish existed in the hobby but doesn't right now, what would it be and why?

This was my first thought too. Either that, or for diseases NOT to exist, but that wasn't exactly the question.A cure for fish diseases that didn't kill everything else in the tank!

I've been thinking about this a lot. If I picked a gene specific to ich and only ich, might be able to design a targeted therapy using CRISPR that kills ich and only ich. Wouldn't mind doing some experiments on this, but would need a tank(s) big enough to hold some ichy ichy tangs... maybe I need a sponsor! ;-)A cure for fish diseases that didn't kill everything else in the tank!

In freshwater, I've been successful with ich treatment by raising the temperature and adding some "aquarium salt" but in saltwater reefs everything is so sensitive that raising and lowering salinity or temperature fast enough to kill ich or velvet before it kills the fish isn't really feasible because it's likely to kill corals and potentially fish as well as the ich.I've been thinking about this a lot. I'd also need funding for genome sequencing, CRISPR engineering, delivery system testing, coffee breaks and a post-doc to yell at...

I buy all kinds of seafood at the Asian market or from the local fishermen. Put it through the meat grinder, mix it some flakes, pellets, Reef Jerky, Mysis shrimp, coral food, phytoplankton and anything else the fish might enjoy. Add some RODI to proper consistency and freeze into cubes. That's breakfast along with some salad (Nori). In the afternoon they get whatever is in the autofeeder so they are used to it for when I go on vacations. They still oink at me every time I walk by.TANK TALK: Manual feeding is an important activity by which to observe and evaluate all the animals in your care. Tell us about your feeding routine. Did you know the Plank mixing chamber is a convenient means to manually feed frozen food? What are your thoughts or questions concerning the balance between manual and automatic feeding?
Which markets? Do they have live clams? For my next build, I'm putting in clams for filtration.I buy all kinds of seafood at the Asian market or from the local fishermen. affordable and simple controllers. I get there’s technology involved but looking at the hydros or the apex systems hurt. Plus they seem complicated. Is there any true plug and play control systems for your lights/pumps/heaters/ect that doesn’t cost over 500 bucks?TANK TALK: If there was one thing/product you wish existed in the hobby but doesn't right now, what would it be and why?
automatic sand cleaner. It doesn’t get that dirty but it really lies the hard to reach areas around euphyllias and acans.TANK TALK: If there was one thing/product you wish existed in the hobby but doesn't right now, what would it be and why?
Mine is my tomini tang is besties with my royal Gramma. They cruise together. Funny too that I've had the royal Gramma for the longest and always hid until he became friends with the tang.TANK TALK: Let's talk about tank mates. H-Mart, especially the one on Alton at Jamboree. Walk in there and the fishy smell hits you like a brick wall but they have anything you could imagine including live clams and oysters, but I think they are more of a cool water species. @Dr. Dendrostein uses them and has some post about it.Which markets?
