Im use Neptune afs. Ive had good success with them. Everyone hates the noise but it lets me know its working and its 6pm haha.

Also on a side note most people complain about dumping the food into the tank trying to pull the canister to refill. All you have to do is turn it to On and as its coming out of the housing grab the sides and pull. That way you dont have to rely on the lid.

Obviously limited to dry foods. Like everyone else a cube dispenser would be great!

i wish there was a frozen food auto feeder...don't currently use auto feeder

TANK TALK: Share a challenging scenario you've faced in your reefkeeping journey. It could be an unexpected algae bloom, equipment malfunction, or a tricky water parameter issue. How did you troubleshoot the problem?
I've been struggling to get pH above 8. I had ordered the Reef Octopus CO2 Scrubber during the black friday sales and some soda lime from Amazon but hadn't done anything yet.

Fast forward to a party we had on Friday and I watched as my pH took a dive with everyone there. The next day I rough (outside the stand) installed the CO2 scrubber on my RO Regal skimmer and watched in amazement as my pH took off to 8.10.

I also now have my Apex set to kill the skimmer once pH hits 8.15. So hopefully with the recirculating scrubber, I'll get a fair amount of time out of the media.

Not really a challenge with all of the documentation out there. But it does really work. And I'm sure I could vent it to outside air, but that also wouldn't do much for the smell which the mrs has been complaining about. So two birds with one stone!

100% dinos

Crashed my tank , lost a ton of corals, finally beat them with high nutrients , feeding bacteria population and UV.

Now they aren't 100% gone I don't think they ever are. But they are in check and the tanks crushing away again

I do not. My auto feeder is me and it's super limiting.

Frozen auto feeder would be awesome

I've never had an autofeeder before. Self cleaning would be a nice feature to have. Or a built-in video camera to monitor when you're traveling.
Considering my feeder is mounted on the top rim of the aquarium and above the cover on the tank, I am not sure a camera is realistic

Currently running an Eheim Auto feeder for small TDO pellets 3x/day. It definitely has limitations. I had to super glue the little door halfway between two notches because on one end it would drop nothing and on the other it would drop a massive amount of pellets. So it is fastened in between and works as well as it could. Still, frequently a pellet or two gets jammed and reduces the number of pellets making it into the tank. Better than nothing for my always hungry wrasses, but not near perfect.

Key feature for an auto feeder is reliable distribution. The plank has just the mechanism, which I like a lot. I wis there was a way to get freeze dried food into the tank without a motor to push it through, but I've used a vortex on freeze dried food and it simply does not rehydrate and drift in the water column. The pump seems like the best solution currently. At least it systematically spits out the food where the fish can quickly nab it. Once they know where it comes out, I doubt there'd be any that escapes to the overflows.

I also think frozen autofeeding would be ideal. Pellets just doesn't do it, so I rigged up a liquid feeding system. Works well, but liquid mysis just isn't as appealing to the fish as frozen, and I see why, because the consistency isn't that great. There are fewer whole pieces. ROE is great as liquid, though, as is oyster Feast.

If there was a good frozen auto feeding system I'd be blending my own mix and cubing them.

Equipment failing. Using the Eflux wave pumps, all three of them one after the other just stopped. Luckily another kind reefer sent me a set to replace them. I’ve also had dinos twice now. Very frustrating to deal with but may be on the mend.

TANK TALK: What's been your most expensive / heartbreaking fish loss due to jumping?
For me, it was a freshwater fish. My female betta macrostoma. She was such a beautiful lady. Usually if found swiftly enough, they can survive the surfing trip since they have their labyrinth organ. However the Waterbox tanks, as you know are quite high up. I believe she had some internal damage. Two days after her venture I found her face down in the plants. Since then I’ve placed glass panes over the top to help curb her mate as he spooks easily. Here is her and Atlas. It’s pretty rare for the ladies to have such lovely caudal patterning. :(

I have used one a long time ago. I was not happy with it because it dumped too much food into the tank. I wish there was a better way to control the amount fed. Like I said it was awhile back so maybe they’ve been improved? I just know that it was while I was at school and the feeder dumped half a bottle of flakes in the tank killing off a good bit of my stock. Also as mentioned, frozen would be cool. My clowns could use more than once a day feeding and so far I’ve not found a clean enough pellet to offer up so frozen brine is what they get but only once a day.

TANK TALK: If you could make one thing easier in this hobby, what would you choose?
Availably for me. I finally have a reef store local, and they’re good. However there are things they don’t carry that I could use. Which I get that everyone has different setups but some of the more common things should be easily found.

Dinos! Slow, methodical, and conservative interventions to ride it out. Fortunately, it wasn't my first Rodeo, so I was prepared. I did do some reading on threads here to update my knowledge base, though.

When I had my first gold fish tank, I remember this one time when I went to feed the fish and the whole lid came off. About 1/4 of the flakes food along with the cap went into the tank. I then scooped it all out with a fishing net but the goldfishes were happy.

Purchasing a stocked nano tank with a GHA problem.... that took over a year of tenacious water changes. Then starting a new tank from scratch and ending up with dinos immediately :face-with-rolling-eyes: Still battling keeping nutrients up, light low and getting ready to add UV and more bacteria.

TANK TALK: Share a story, pictures, or video of feeding time in your aquarium.

My 180g aquarium was a high tech planted tank until recently. I got in a horrible motorcycle accident in 2015 and had to relearn how to walk. I had a Reef tank in highschool but was out of the hobby for years but wanted something simple during my rehab to keep me occupied. I have always loved Black piranhas and I decided to just stop in at the local pet store and they had one. I didnt have a single aquarium item but had them put him on hold while I set up a 40g aquarium for "Harold". When I got him he was about 1.5". Since then he lived in 3 different houses with me. I never fed him live food, I spent a crazy amount of time trying to get him to eat prepared foods. We started with thawed shrimp soaked in garlic and eventually got him on pellets. He got 10ish massiviour delights every couple days when he got big enough.

Fast forward, my planted tank was so good at growing plants I had a bit of a side business selling plants locally. It funded a decent portion of my 70g reef tank. The trick was not losing a hand when trimming, pulling or messing with plants. I had to gut load this guy so I had less fear of losing a digit. At 13" he was pretty intimidating! He was docile and I'm pretty sure i could have pet him if I wanted to, but why risk it?!

As long as he was Fed before hand he had no care I was in his tank.

He passed unexpectedly in June, I have never been really emotional in my life but I was a wreck for a few weeks. I got him in a time where life seemed **** and he was with me from then until I met my wife and got married. We always said "good night Harold" when the lights went out at 10pm.

Its hard to see it sit there without him, so the obvious thing to do is turn this into my reef tank so the look is way different.

RIP buddy
