as you can see we decided to add a center piece... i'll pick up the rest of the foam in a day or two and finish it out.. then show you pics of it done..
well it is done minus a 4x3 spot on the center piece.. thinking i'm goin to place sand n live rock to hide the eggcrate rather than buy another can of foam.. had to drive an hour to get more today after i bought out our lowes and found 2 of the 4 cans i bought did not work.. almost bought that extra can too.. oh well. here is pics.. will take more once i get tank stood back up like it belongs and i decide if i should buy another can or hide it in other manners.. final tally
2 pieces of eggcrate
lots of shells
8 cans of foam
1 pack of zipties that was a mix of big n lil ones.. only used lil ones.
hints for next time.. place foam on the glass then lay the crate over it n push down while still wet.. use rubber gloves..
i did press the foam down with a shell after the outer layer had harden a lil (bout 45 min or so) as i did not want it all poofed out other than on center spot.. by doing it in sections i inadvertantly created ledges when a new layer was pressed down against an outer one..
i will be using superglue gel to add a few shells here n there once i have it standing
i will be using black sand on the bottom and hoping it looks kinda like a flat area up against a cave/jet out area of a wall or the like.. not sure how to describe what i am visioning..
i will let it cure/sit for at least 3 days prior to adding water n such
i will probably have to carve out some of the areas around the holes in center piece which i should be able to do easily with a knife tomorrow
I am figuring that by the weekend i will have water in it, refugium, pump, skimmer n such all set up..
It looks like you have been busy. I just down-sized my son's planted freshwater from a 29 gallon to a 10 gallon. He needed more space in his room. It took longer than I expected. I bet you have some time in your project as well.
i would say between my daughter and i both the wall so far has been about 10-13 hours .. it was not near as difficult or time consuming as i assumed it would be..
ok here we go.. these two pics are of the foam doing it's thing while it cures.. it is cool really how it grows out of this one spot.. we have cut it off and it grows back..
ok for some reason the wrong pic posted above.. here are the pics of water in the tank.. the lights are not here for now as a new balist is needed.. should have back sometime this week and will take other pics but for now..
oh and yes that is two clowns you see in the pics.. i moved my black ice to this tank
