Question. Just replaced my 2 membranes. Regular vs spectrapure. I use spectra pure but wonder if a little less cheaper ones are just the same
I'm a big fan of SpectraPure DI, however, I heard that this membrane is just as good as their membrane and is what I purchased a couple months ago:

Every time I replace mine, I replace 2 at the same time. I'll look into it. Thanks

so i am losing my battle against cyano, like badly. i am going to do a chemiclean treatment, but i would love to know before i go forward with that if others have used it and if you have any tips for me as well? I have tried calcium carbonate and it did not make a dent. i manually remove as much as possible each morning and it is back by the afternoon. soon i shall too be cyano, and we shall be legion.
Just opened the thread and saw the discussion on cyano. My methods are a little more basic, but it is very successful in getting cyano to go away. Cyano is an extremely important bacteria in the ocean. As Billy said, it is in everyone’s tank, but it will not blossom unless the conditions are right for it. As will most living entities, that’s an over abundant food supply. Cyano is the oceans waste removal system. Its food supply is waste. It blossoms when there is an abundance of biological waste in the tank. It can be killed back with chemicals, but unless its food source, biological waste, is removed it will return and flourish until all the waste is gone. You have to look for and remove all the unwanted waste in the tank, thereby removing its food source and it will recede. Even if you didn’t do anything, it would eventually remove all the waste itself and then die off as it starved. The problem with that is it may kill a lot of desired things as well since they can’t leave the area while it’s happening.

This waste may have built up over time in the sand bet, be all in the rocks etc. you have to remove it and look at your maintenance methods to understand how it is building up to the point that cyano blossoms. You probably don’t want to try to do it all at once, but some everyday until you can get ahead of it. Blowing the rocks daily, changing filter socks daily, water changes every few days as you stir up the sand beds etc. it may take a few weeks, but once you get ahead on the waste and not put more in the tank than you are removing, the cyano will start dissipating. I’m not a fan of chemicals in the tank, so elbow grease and manual removal are my go to techniques.

Sort of long winded, but hope it helps.
