Ok CA peoples, I need some help. Trying to fishless cycle a new tank with Dr. Tim's. I set up the tank with dry rock and dry sand, added 2 rocks from the sump of my current tank, brought the water up to temp and started following the instructions on Dr. Tim's on Monday. Dosed the ammonium chloride at 4 drops per gallon.

I am now 5 days in. On day 3 I was supposed to dose another 4 drops per gallon but did only half that. Today is day 5 and this is the ammonia test just now:

I am using a Salifert Nitrite test an noted some pink color so it would appear that nitrite is present.

A couple things -

1. The bottle of Dr. Tim's was a year old. Expiration date of November 2023 (didn't even think to look at this). The large bottle had been used on 3 tanks over the past year but has been refrigerated.

2. The rocks from my sump that were added had sat in a bucket in 65 degree water for 4 days prior to going in the new tank.

3. I did not take the filter floss out of the overflows (tank is an AIO) before adding the Dr. Tim's.

With all that said do you think need to do a big water change and start this process over? What about adding additional bottle bac like Macrobacter7?

Suggestions?

Season 2 Shut Up GIF by Paramount+

During shipping we are going to run 2 things

1) we will do an unboxing contest for a $250 Gift card.

The rules are simple you need to do a video unboxing of the corals. This video will become part of a video serios testimonial on our website. In order to enter the video has to be a utube video. Has to state your name and show your face at the beginning. You will basically show a video of the unboxing receiving the corals in bags, the show them in your tank ect. Tag us here so we don’t miss it. Each entry will give you a chance at a win spin for the $250 gift card

2) we are doing a random sticker prize reveal. Every order will get a free sticker. and 5 lucky winners will have a number written on the sticker. It can be number 1-5. Whoever gets 1 will get prize 1 and be able to pick the prize 1st. and 2 gets 2nd ect all the way up to 5. So the winner will get a sticker with a number on it which will become your tank for picking one of the 5 prizes. As you get the sticker you need to tag us here and show your sticker number. We will reveal the prized later in this thread once all boxed are received.

Good luck everybody and we can’t wait to see what you get!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just redid the Red Sea ammonia at 50% tank water and 50% RODI. Test results are very high:

I think I messed up.
If you want to speed it up, grab another bottle of Dr Tim's or whatever dump it in and let it ride.

When I do a fishless cycle I let the ammonia zero out before adding more. The bacteria isn't going to die in a day or two.

Your rocks probably will be enough to get it going though.
