Thanks. That’s what I’m looking at. How to add a new structure that will have stability, but also have to be a stand alone structure because there is really no way to brace it against the existing rocks without totally destroying that big montipora coral on the lower ledge. Some of it will probably die, but I think I can build it such that enough light will still get to it. The base rocks will be about 12-14” apart (small tripod) which should give it good stability. Three base rocks with a flat ledge rock on top. The height will be about 13-14” which should be about 350 PAR. The monti ran out of rock surface last year and has just continued to plate out bigger and bigger. I may just break off the flange areas and find other places in the tank for them. It’s a JF Frankie’s Hot Pink Rim Monti. Really like it, but it’s taking up too much space now.Tank looks great. I would consider the carib sea tonga or.flat rock. I went with the tonga.
The biggest issue I had was theyre very heavy, so trying to wedge it in a manner that will recreate your egg crate will create a crazy pivot/seesaw. I was up till 2am trying to place 2 pieces of tonga.
So think about not only what you want it to look like, but how you will support it or secure it, snd consider the caribsea is heavy. 2 branches was 5 or 6lbs even for me.
If i was to reach in like a mongrel and bump this tonga id prolly fling/crush 20 colonies
