I never knew about this option. Thank you so much for sharing! Maybe I should also try out radium with "right ballast"
See? I learned something new today thanks to @djf91 and @gastone. Let's keep this positivity going!

My main argument is that we do not need to engage in meaningless conversation unless you'd like to beat the dead horse.
I completely agree with you that there is "no realistic chances of a true 'comback,'" but at the same time there are population of reefers who still want to use metal halide despite of its drawbacks. And I do not know if this applies to anyone else but for me, when I like something really a lot, I'd like to share with others just like @A. grandis. Please also consider my passion (and love) for metal halide and be respectful so that we can engange in meaningful conversation. Attacking ad mocking each other is not considered meaningful conversation.

As a person who wants metal halide option available to hobbyists, I find it unfortunate that new hobbyists no longer see much metal halide lit tanks at LFS/other hobbyists'. Not to mention LFS do not carry them much.

Thank you for your wisdom! I was little worried that my newly acquired bulb may not be the same as it must have sat in the store for a looooooong time. Now I am considering stocking them up. hehe reports incoming!

Yes I agree that @A. grandis has a particular way of communicating with others, and it appears that he cannot help himself. But at the same time @A. grandis helps others when they ask questions regarding metal halide. And that he's the starter of this thread so I did not want to point out his name bluntly out of respect.

Although he's biased (maybe he's associated with the new bulb company?) he's a good guy who helps others. Perhaps too much passion for metal halide.

My conclusion? Why not respect his "opinion" whether true or not, it does not matter. No sarcasm is needed.

Please consider my conversation with @A. grandis, there is no debate. We can engage in a conversation with him in a nice way. Only exchange of meaningful information to help each other out, perhaps little celebration of what we can achieve with MH... that's the purpose of this forum, right? share our passion and inspire others?

I just love when @jda steps in. I completely agree with his view on this matter and he does convey his opinion in a non aggressive way without any sarcasm.

Thank you for reading and sorry for the language, I still struggle with English.
Just to clarify, cause people before thought that I worked for Hamilton. I do not, nor ever had in my life, and do not plan to, be involved in any company, including any type of sponsorship, that sells anything for this hobby, including metal halides, T5s or LEDs! Just to make sure people know that from me. That is not the case at all!! All my participation in this forum is as a simple hobbyist!

Yes this thread is interesting...I posted on why I love radiums today and the first response was on how the brain works and how we can train ourselves to forget about radiums. lol. It's all over the place...

Alex (@A. grandis) thanks for starting this thread and being instrumental in helping us MH lovers still have the option to buy Radiums. I've got 6 more brand new 250 watt Radium bulbs now in my fish closet (I also bought some Ushio 20ks as backup). I'm set for a few years.

I’m so annoyed that radiums appear to be going into production again. I couldn’t find any halide fixtures last year, so I went with an Orphek icon. It’s not a bad light, but now I see multiple MH sets for sale. Lol

If my LED goes out, I’ll be back to MH no question.

I have never heard people assuming you worked for hamilton. I assumed that you were associated because of your absence of response to my point (that metal halide bulbs are waaaaaaay overpriced by companies including the one you are friend with.)

FYI, I think I saw it yesterday...there was a giesmann spectra for sale in the drygood section...you can run 4 t5s and 250 or 400 watt radiums in it. Just thought I'd share in case anyone looking for a fixture...someone out of Idaho. Incredible light.

Awesome fixture but seems a bit pricey for a 2nd hand 24"fixture.. I forget msrp, but isn't the 48" new from giesman around $7xx. I think they still produce new fixtures but would be shipped from Germany $$
Yea, may be a little pricey. I am pretty sure I paid nearly $1200-1300 for a new 48" spectra 8-9 years ago. I could be wrong. My current spectra is also a 48" and I paid about $850 from someone on here back in 2022. Maybe I got taken to the cleaners, lol, but I couldn't pass it up because it was ice white!

Haven't been following this thread much as I've been really busy. I have a few MH fixtures and some 250w DE bulbs for sale that I will be listing soon if anyone is interested.

I paid that much for 2 m80s and 2 beautiful 16" fixtures(forgot the name) from Sven, here on r2r. I'm saving them for my next tank, currently using cayman suns

I may be mistaken on the number, I know the giesmans aren't cheap, they are very high quality

I honestly don’t think metal halide pendants look bad, I actually prefer them to LED.
Odd but whatever works. I guess it depends on the size of the tank too. A lumenarc or lumenmax or two over a 4 foot is awkward. tThe ReefOptix III looked okay. The form factor was a more matched to most tanks that size. I don’t think they are still available.
