I'd do something like this:
image.jpg

mainly because I could carve a sick low profile overflow and overflow box for it.
I'd actually do 3/4" plumbing throughout just to simplify, because you have so many holes, and because the stop valves are only $3....

I'd run UV and reactors through the closed loop... make that a gigantic pump...
I like this. I like it a lot! The million dollar question though is how big a pump should I go for here?

May not even need powerheads...

I was thinking of something similar because when I put my ear to the tank all I hear are motors... must drive the fish nuts. When I get a new tank I would like to just have several closed loops and no powerheads.

I agree with Frank; sump is key for maintenance. You could put those 3/4 stop valves on the closed loop pipes where you can mess with them below the stand till you design and get pump(s) for that system.
I'd save the closed loop stuff for later and just focus on the simple DT/sump setup.

Do you have any plans for the overflow?
I'm currently running an overflow I hand-cut with a razor-blade out of PVC ceiling tile and glued with PVC glue and CA on my 15 gallon nem tank. So far my only issue is I think algae is more prone to grow on it.

I cut the one on my frag tank out on my diy cnc; also ceiling tile pvc
I’m not sure yet but I’ll probably go with an eshopps. It’ll likely be 1800 GPH to 2000 GPH.

Well it turns out I don’t have enough wood on hand right now so I’ll have to put the stand on standby until payday. Fortunately we get paid in a couple of weeks. In the meantime I’ll work on getting other things done towards getting the new system up and running.

Originally I was going to break down the 75 and put the animals back into the bin I had them in after the blowout. Then I was going to build cabinets to the sides so that it could support a 125. Since I got a 210 now there’s no way I’d do that.

The tank will weigh a bit over a ton, not counting the sump. Therefore the new stand is going to be beefed up compared to stands I’ve built in the past. It’ll have 12 legs. The upper and lower frames will have several spacers in each The stand itself will have an anti wracking beam. Of course the framework will be leveled and glued.

I got the holes in the 210 measured and they’re 1.75” in diameter. Since I’ll be incorporating a sump, the closed loop circulation pump (or pumps) won’t have to be as large. I still need sufficient flow for SPS though so I’m going to look for a pump (or pumps) that can be run outside of the tank and that would give me the flow I need.

I’m still not sure how tall I should build the stand. It’s got to be tall enough to fit the sump but short enough that I can work in the DT. I made the height of the stand 21” but that’s not set in stone yet.

All my animals are doing well. I’m glad I didn’t add sand to the 75. I knew I’d be upgrading when I found out I was getting a hippo tang. I need to clean the sand from the 90. I also have to clean the sand that was in the same tank as the rock I got several months ago.

I think going to need min 24" clearance for a skimmer.
you could extend base by X inches ,to allow height for skimmer, and small cabinet above ... ;) :)
@Projects with Sam could you draw that up please...

I could do that. I’ll definitely need room for a skimmer but I need room in general under there. Of course I could also make the stand as tall as the one the 75 is on. That would give me some clearance to work in the sump and to mount lights above it. My only concern with doing that is that I’d need six people to lift the tank up that high.

would not be concerned about lifting 6-10" extra inches, going to take min 4 people to lift anyhow... ;)
only doing it once...:)

35" stand doesnt really leave a lot of room with a 75 Gallon

could pickup an extra 4" by laying the bottom 2x6s flat and recessing the whole thing. thats actuually kind of nice for flooding... if you seal it it becomes a big trough of 'I gotchou'.

that is what i was trying to say ,extend stand 12" out side, put sump to end ,beyond tank base,
upspace for skimmer , build cabinet above , 84" total base of stand
if that makes more sense... :)

I'd be more inclined to cut-down the 75. and do the trough. keep the stand standard... hah
