Adding, you can add a sump... but.. working the closed loop is something you'll have to look onto if its what you'd like to do.

Adding a closed loop isn't difficult. Not sure the best ideal pump is.

Figuring out your overflow box is another step.

This tanks going to be an interesting project if you get it.
I’m thinking of doing a closed loop or dual overflows and running two return pumps that would utilize the holes the closed loop was likely using. I might still run a closed loop though. It depends on the diameter of the two holes and the research I need to do regarding the closed loop.

Well there’s a good chance I’m going be upgrading sooner rather than later. Much, much sooner in fact. The upgrade is almost twice as big as I was originally planning, yet half the price. I’m likely getting a 220. It’s about an hour away and it’s likely going down on Sunday.

Now I just need to Shanghai someone of a couple of someones to help row that boat of a tank into the van and into the apartment. Thankfully no stairs involved from what I’ve gathered. There are definitely none here save a slight 4 inch curb but if we drive up onto it that’ll take care of that.

I’ve accepted his offer and originally I was going to get it tomorrow but we have to babysit tomorrow and before that we have to take a friend of ours to do some errands. Hopefully he’ll be ok with me coming on Sunday. If he’s ok with Sunday then it’s game on!

I’m excited and nervous at the same time. I’ll have to wait a bit to fill it but just getting it home will be amazing. Thankfully the floor is concrete and level. This thing is literally 2 1/2 of my 90 gallon cubes! I’ll have to get a stand built which will happen pretty quickly. Here is a picture of the tank. Someone drilled a bunch of holes in it. My guess is that they had dual overflows and a closed loop or it was a coast to coast overflow and a closed loop but I’m probably wrong. If any of you know what kind of overflow I should be using on this please let me know.

If you use those as return lines you'll need check valves.

Awesome any plans yet for lighting?
MH is what I’m going for. LEDs are ok but nothing like halides. I modified an older high bay luminaire so I could mount the transformer remotely. I screwed the reflector into the canopy I built for the 90. It covered that tank so well that there was no shimmer even though the light was mounted about a foot above the surface. It’s a 400 watt fixture so it was super bright with the 6500k lamp I have. Now I just need two more 400 watt luminaires and lighting will be taken care of.

The more I think about it the more I like the idea of having a sump AND a very simple closed loop system. It seems that most only have one or the other.

The Pros of Sumps:

I like the idea of having that extra bit of water volume. My sump has always been more fuge than anything else.

I want a mated pair of mandarin dragonettes so having pods growing where nothing will eat them is a must.

The Cons of Sumps:

Only the amount of room to access the sump, at least in the stand I’m going to build.

I’ll probably use a closed loop, however small, since I’ll have my current wave maker in the DT. I like the idea of turbulent flow. A closed loop would let me have strong flow without a bunch of extra equipment in the DT. I’m definitely going to add in a sump too. I’ll be using the 75 as a sump in this build instead of the 30.

The closed loop seems like a really cool idea to me. Basically a hardcore powerhead if you add a DC pump.
I believe the EcoTech Vectras can run the same modes as the MPs but I'n sure there are other pumps out there that will run modes.
Come to think of it, I think I had a Jebao return pump on my Chilid tank that had a sine mode and a random mode. A couple random flow nozzles *cough ParlaNoz3Qtr cough* and some loc-line and you're in business.
After looking at several builds, closed loop for water flow, sump for filtering. It's actually pretty nice. Seeing as adding power heads can make it difficult to remove and clean, as where the pump for the closed loop would be easier to manage. Random flow nozzles would add a nice touch!

best of luck @Fishy888

Thank you. The more I think about it the more a closed loop and a sump/fuge sounds good. I’ll utilize the two lower holes especially for that purpose. I’m going to keep looking at closed loop systems as I have a design in mind but I want to make sure I get this right the first time.

Use gate, not ball.
Thank you! I shall. I might actually use schedule 80 plumbing on this reef as well since the valves are of better quality from what I’ve read. It’ll be more expensive but still not bad for this build. After all the stand will be substantially shorter than the stands I usually build.

As I was typing this I heard back about the tank. It’s mine. I go to pick it up around 3:00 or 3:30 today. We’ll have just enough time to get it in the house, stand it up on end until we get home from babysitting, and go babysit. I’ll probably be on here the whole time deciding what other fish I want. This is 20 gallons shy of the biggest tank I’ve ever run. It’s a dream come true.

Don't need sch 80 piping , and if at all possible don't stand on end, JMO... :)
It’ll have to go on end to turn it in the direction it’ll have to go to make it in but I won’t leave it that way. Thank you for telling me before I did it lol.

make a manifold using these high quality gate valves. save big money from menards!

1" PVC T-s fit perfectly over these on the outside... as an option.

may make sense to also do something similar for if you ever want an in-line UV:

Your welcome! I like sharing my ideas! At least you thanked me; unlike RedSea... speaking of which;
Another feature I really like:

I thin I used these:
mounted them on 2x4s that I cut chunks out of.
I wish I gave myself 1/4 an inch more so the grounded plugs on the EB8s I have nestled back there had a little more clearance. - easy enough to retrofit... I'm just too busy killing corals.

and no; I wasn't going for a bunch of phalloses on my control board...
