As long as you like the spirorbid worms that’s all that matters.Much like the title of this video, there’s that moment when you’ve been so busy focusing on your RBTA you don’t realize that you’re tank’s been taken over by spirorbids. I’m sure there’s a moral in there somewhere.
I’ve said it before, and it’s still as true as ever, that I love the micro life as much as the macro. I’m actually glad to have the spirorbids.
I’m also noticing more of my red micro feather duster worms making a comeback. I thought I lost all of those too after getting the 90 gallon cube set up in mid September.
Speaking of comebacks it turns out the halloween hermit is very much alive. I thought it was possible that it moulted but the moult looked meatier than most hermit crab moults I’ve seen. As a result I thought it died when it was in fact hiding in its own shell.
I scraped the back glass and the overflow tonight. After that I used a net to catch as much of the algae as I could (really cyano, lyngbya in particular so not really algae). I also blew th detritus off of the rocks. The anemone took a puff of water while I was taking care of the rock it’s on. Of course it retracted but even now it’s still out and with plenty of bubble tips. It amazes me that it hasn’t budged from where it’s been since I put it in. Hopefully within the next few days it will stop gaping or be close to stopping.
I added some baking soda to the system tonight. After I read an article about LaCl and how it drops ALK because the lanthanum binds not only to phosphates but to carbonate even when there are high phosphate levels. The article also states that even if the lanthanum bound only to phosphate it still brings ALK down; and that phosphates contribute to ALK. My system, according to the BRS baking soda ALK calculator, needs 2.4 tsp of baking soda to raise ALK by 1 dKH. I added 1 tsp. That was good to raise my ALK about 4 dKH. It will help my raise my pH and restore what I lost with the lanthanum dosing. I’m going to have my water tested tomorrow or Monday before I dose anymore. I know that my pH is likely low and I’m willing to bet my ALK is low too. The next Hanna checker I get will be for ALK.
Sorry, but I'm definitely not an expert. Might be an isopod...It’s been a while since I took any videos of the overflow refugium in the DT. This video was taken a little over an hour ago. I have no idea what these are. Please let me know what these things are. @EeyoreIsMySpiritAnimal I heard through the sea grapevine that you’re an expert in things like this.
Today is the seventh day of having this beautiful anemone with me. This video is of the nem waking up while the lights warm up.
Isopod or amphipod would be my guess too in this case, but I'm not sure.
I love xenia. It’s growing nicely. It’s started on a third rock now. I’ll get a picture of it when I can. The xenia colony on the top rock was the first coral to go in when I had dinos. A friend sold me both rocks with xenia on them. They single handedly killed the dinos.Love the xenia!
Sorry to learn of the troubles you had with Kyliegh. Hopefully she’s doing better in her new home.Kyliegh sadly bit my wife twice and drew blood both times so we gave her to a cockatoo rescue where she’s doing well. Her previous owner died a week before I got her so she was quite unsettled. My wife never provoked her. Kyliegh became quite possessive of me and was jealous. Even when my wife was sitting on the opposite side of the couch minding her own business Kyliegh bit her hard. I miss the bird but not her biting everyone else.
