New ORA Saddleback Clownfish, does this "white dust" look to be of concern?

Get a sponge filter and a big bottle of fritz or biospira bacteria. A hang on back filter with non aragonite biomedia also works.

AHhh that makes sense.. Going to get a few large ones today!

My ammonia is at 0.65 right now with hanna checker. Two 20g tank without bio not enough. Doing a water change tonight, hope the bio bottle works fast with the sponge filter.

Another pic from today. This is ich?

How come they r getting more and more since 3 days in copper? Also the size on the top fine seems very large for ich.

Looks like the large saddle is in end stage. Maybe only s few hours left. His body is faded color now. Still cant tell what he has. Doesnt appear to have to skin "peeling" like brook.

Need help!

So my QT is running well,, I think its been over a week with the copper at 2.4 and 2.2 on the wrasse tank.

I notice my purple tang is starting to get those white dust spots that the ORA saddles had, and I noticed my percula clowns are starting to hid and breathing heavy.. They do have similar white dust thing that the ORA saddles had.

I'm thinking maybe this is indeed brook and copper isnt impacting it.

If I do a foramlin dip, do I need to put them all in a new tank or can I use the same tank? Basically, can I do a formalin dip, and do water change on the QT tank that they came from and put them back in... or do I need to get a whole new sterilized tank to put them in after the formalin dip?

What ratio of formalin for the regular fish and what for the wrasse? Less for the wrasse?

If it's brook, I'd just use rally pro. Or possible ich-x since that is formalin based.

Quick update on this thread.... My purple tang and blue tang started to look real bad with white spots on their skin, flashing and scratching. As did my percula clown, which seem to be breathing very rapidly. They've been in copper at 2.4ppm for close to two weeks now so can rule out velvet or ich... Really suspect brook or unknown protozoa. Also did a formalin bath at 1ml/gal for 55 minutes but it didnt seem to do anything (it did kill my whitetail tang unfortunately). The heavy breathing on the clown indicated to me he had maybe 3-4 days left before he was going to die.

I ended up getting chloroquine phosphate. I used CP about 6 years ago to eradicate a bad velvet outbreak. I didn't go that route at first because the drug was hard as hell to get 6 years ago. At that time, I had to call about 15 vets before one vet gave me a prescription and I managed to get it at Diamondback.

This time, I did some digging and found aquatic version of chloroquine phosphate. Got it shipped overnight by N.F.P. and swapped them out into a new QT with CP dosed at 60mg/g. In only 6 hours, spots were 90% gone from my blue tang and purple tang, and my perculas are breathing normal again. The very next day, purple tang and blue tang appear to have zero spots left. I know CP and blue tang dont go together but hopefully he will pull through.

CP is truly an awesome drug. Saved my tang 6 years ago and hope it will do again. Crossing fingers.

Im planning on removing these fish and putting them back in QT, running ruby rally on them and observe again.

But with the DT, i can wait to see if my other fish show signs? Im skeptical that ruby reef rally can eradicate brook in DT.

And is it safe with corals?
I'm planning on ordering ORA Saddlebacks, and I'm curious as to what all transpired with diagnosis and treatment. Would you please share? Thank you!

Well, I didn't quarantine the fish because I assumed they would be disease free. I've always QT every fish before this. Unfortunately, these clown had brook. The end result was, both ORA clowns died, I also lost two rhomboid wrasse, a blue tang and a whitetail tang. I have 4 other wrasse, a purple tang, a potters angel, and two other clowns that survived.

I removed all the fish from my DT and ran copper initially with no result. Brook spread to various other fish as copper had no effect. I gave them formalin dip and thats where my whitetail tang died (didnt take the formalin well). Unfortunately, the formalin didnt eradicate brook. I then ran chloroquine phosphate and towards the tail end of the treatment, my two rhomboids died (it seem they tolerated chloroquine fine but they also succumb to treatment). However, good news was chloroquine did eradicate brook. Bad news, my blue tang stop eating while on chloroquine. I thought he was going to pull through because he started eating again for two days post treatment but then stopped and died.

I still mange to save the rest of the fish and I'm 6 weeks into fallow period. I'm going to put the fish in after 8 weeks fallow.

Lesson learned, always run full QT regardless of the source.

What is particularly interesting is that the new ORA clowns only sat in an acclimation box in the DT for about 5 hours making no contact with any other fish. This was enough to spread the disease.

I'm sorry to hear that. May I ask who you ordered your Ora Saddlebacks from? I start my cycle in the morning, and am purchasing fish in a couple weeks. I definitely don't want to receive sick Saddlebacks... Thank you very much for sharing your experience with this. It really does pay to be informed.

It came shipped directly from ORA. Ordered it from saltwateraquarium.com. They just dropship .

Just because my clowns were sick doesnt mean yours will be. Years back I ordered a fish from Divers Den and it had velvet. i just got another fish from Divers Den this week too to replace my blue tang that died.

Thank you again, that's great news! I'm new to reefing, and I just want to gain as much knowledge as I possibly can. This site is amazing. And that's because of the people who make this community what it is...
