Hey guys I got a new Monti from a frag show yesterday. After research it is a montipora spongodes I had a montipora Digitata and an encrusting Monti die a couple months back. I was wondering if anyone has experience with the spongodes and what the care requirements are. Any help appreciated :)

These guys love higher lighting (250PAR is the minimum I’d grow it in if you want that green to really shine). Mine has grown rather fast now I’ve got it going but getting them to actually grow can be hard. I’ve found mine have almost identical care to my Digitata and Plating Monti.
My sunset monti is currently going through ups and downs of trying to not bleach from my urchin carrying it into the sand.

Ok I have it acclimating to my lights and will move it to the top of my tank in a few days. I picked it because that green really caught my eye hopefully I can keep it like that

That green is gorgeous with spoingodes.
Ignore the wall of cyano (I’m trying to beat it with natural warfare of algae’s using the coral) but the green really just glows.

This is the frag I picked up

That is an incredibly nice piece, that looks like a nice sized frag too. I’d get it up high if you don’t have a high PAR level on the sandbed.

agree thats a really nice piece, and agree to move it up. More light and more flow will keep montipora happy.

Thats a nice piece, that particular type was the first montipora I tried. Slow grower. I second the high par. 300 and up. Digitata is my favorite, sunset and red digi for me do best getting blasted, 4-500 par, fast growers and colored up very well under that par even though I thought It might be too much at first.
