Hello, I am new to the saltwater world. I have had freshwater aquariums for more than 10 years. I recently purchased a 60 gallon tank that I am going to make into a saltwater tank. I am working on getting all the startup supplies together. I already have a tentative stocking list tell me what you guys think? PS I will have about 80 pounds of life rock in the tank

Ocellaris Clownfish (2) , One Spot Foxface (1), Blue Tang/Kole Tang, Six Line Wrasse9(1) , Coral Beauty Angelfish(1), Banded Coral Shrimp(1)

Is this too much too little?

Thanks
What do you mean by blue tang? The kole will likely be ok but most tangs will need more swimming room. The foxface will also eventually need a larger tank. Do you plan on doing corals or just fish? If just fish you should be able to handle the bioload.

Sorry by Blue Tang I meant Powder Blur Tang, however I know it will become quite big, I plan to upgrade in about a year or so. There will be no corals in the tank, just live rock

Foxface and any tang that goes by the common name, blue tang, get too big for 60g.

Sixline wrasses get mean.

Each tank is different as the bioload it can handle, just add slowly and test frequently.

Just wait until after the upgrade to get the powder blue.

Ok. Yea he will need an upgrade as well but not as badly as a blue hippo tang lol. As long as you know to be prepared to either upgrade or rehome the fish I would start stocking the smaller guys. Tangs that are stressed due to confined tanks can be real problems

A bicolor blenny and royal gramma should both be fine.

Each tank is different, so just add slowly and test frequently. Possible additions would include swales basslet, bangaii cardinal, firefish, zebra dartfish, yellow head jawfish, pink streak wrasse.

Thanks for the quick response. Definitely planning to take it slow with 2-4 weeks between additions. What about the pajama cardinal over the bangaii? It's inexpensive and looks neat. Going to start with the blenny and royal gramma and then maybe add one (maybe two but doubt it) more from there.

Pj cardinal would be fine instead of a bangaii.

I read somewhere last night that they are best kept in odd numbers. Would that mean I need a minimum of three or can I have just one?
I've seen singles, pairs, odd numered and even. They a peaceful cardinal, one or any number will work.

Thanks! Did a water change last night and are heading to the LFS today to see which ones we are most interested in they might have and order one if not. I think our top choices are:

Pajama Cardinal
Royal Gramma
Bi Color Blenny
Firefish

My husband asked about a damsel. The blue damsel or another light blue green colored one we saw recently. Would a damsel in general work with these other fish and the percula and brown clown goby we have?

There are some damsels that are more peaceful, notably those in the genus Chrysiptera, but they are still damsels. I wouldn't add them with a firefish in a 37g, but would be fine with the rest of your current/projected stocklist, just add it last if you go that route.

What are my options for a fish for a 46 gallon bowfront tank, that like eating Calpura and other macro algae. Please give me some ideas before I break down and enslave a juvenile tang.

Algae and starry blennies should, as should emerald crabs. I would recommend manually removing as much as possible during water changes, too.

I'm planning a 40g breeder build. I definitely want a pair of clowns. What else would get along with them? Also, it will be a reef tank

For a 40g any of the following should work: small flasher and fairy wrasses, zebra dartfish, firefish, sunburst anthias, royal gramma, swales basslet, midas blenny, stigmatura blenny, barnacle blennies, yellow head jawfish, watchman goby, clown goby, neon goby.

What can you tell me about compatibility between a blue spotted jawfish and Midas blenny in a 120 4'x2'? I have heard they are not compatible.

A midas blenny is compatible with any jawfish. The midas blenny stay at the rockwork and top of the tank. A jawfish will stay at the bottom, near it's burrow in the sand.

The only foreseeable issue is that BSJ are from cooler waters than most keep their tanks. Warmer temps = shorter lifespan.
