And a part of the sump usually not used for anything is used a lot by me. The baffle area.

I made 2 small egg crate stands, one on each end that hold 2 media bags of carbon right now.

Then a larger stand over top of that which runs the full length of the baffle.

On top of that rests the bubble trap material.

When I clean my sump, I lay felt filter material on top of the bubble trap filter. Then I crank up the UV pump and use the flex hose outlet of the UV to blow out the sump. All the crud gets filtered in the bubble trap filter pad I laid in and is easily removed for cleaning

I have only ever used a turkey baster for blowing off the rocks.

And since I have added the 2nd gyre, and running the otc cycle, I have minimal stuff that blows off.

Super happy with how the gyres work in my tank!

Oooh, good to know! I hadn't actually considered a turkey baster. I should have considering I have 20lbs of dragon rock in my guppy tank that I use a baster on. lol!

I actually plan on going with the gyres as well. It was a choice between them and the mp40s but I like the wider flow and no one's had anything bad to say about them. Was it you that mentioned they're a little noisy before breaking in? A small price to pay for good flow.

Mine have been very quiet. When I disassemble, clean, and reassemble, sometimes I get a squeal when ramping up or down. Maybe 1 out of every 3 cleanings. But it’s usually gone within a few hours.

And the nudibranchs are starting the march into the tank! I will wait till 5 or so are out, then move the container to another spot. Then again and again.

Heading about 45 minutes away to pick up some new frags. Going to do a little trading, including my clam which the flametail blenny has taken a liking to, and not in a good way

Gonna dip my toes into sps now that I am 10 months in.

I’m excited to give it a go!

So I moved my clam and he was extended and looking happy.

And as I am sitting there staring and all the new additions, Lenny swims over and takes a nip

I’m going to have to trade it if I want it to live.

The place I was at today had a beautiful 2 head octospawn and a 5 polyp utter chaos he said he would trade for the clam

Maybe another road trip tomorrow!
