I have two DCP-18000's. One running a skimmer and one as a return. I have the same setup as you, 220 display and a 60 frag, except mine is all in the basement. You will not get 2000+ to the display at 14' plus plumbing. Just not gonna happen. Your going to need to stick with a head rated AC pump for that. The tech just isn't there yet with DC pumps.

Both pumps are internal running 100%, I am running a chiller and UV from a manifold on the return but the best I've seen is about 1700gph on the return line with the manifold shut off. I have about 6' vertical lift and about another 6 to 8' of head with the plumbing. The skimmer runs 1-1/2 PVC and steps down to 3/4" at the injector. Maybe 1.5' of vertical lift and 5' head in plumbing. But you can really see the restriction at the injector in the flow rate on the skimmer.

I hear you, I was in the same place up until last week. I have a 220, and a sump in the basement. I made a huge mistake incorrectly sizing and using a AquaMaxx Magnus VSG-6000 DC Water Pump by Sunpole. It was undersized really, and expensive considering its still a Chinese knockoff pump. I should have just Jebao from the start. So here I am 6 months later I replaced it with a Jebao DCP-10000 DCP. The DCP being the newest model, it took awhile to figure out the DC/DCP/DCT hierarchy. But off Amazon the DCP was clearly the newest and offered the best value per dollar. I went up in head pressure, GPH, and now can properly feed my RFG nozzels. I'm using it independently with its own controller at 100% plugged into a 2016 Apex now, in a week or so I plan on buying the Aqualink A1 so I can tie it in a variable speed port on my Apex. I couldn't be happier, I constantly think I should have gone bigger, but the price step, and more power consumption didn't warrant it. Probably when I upgrade my sump this winter, I'll upgrade pumps again, use this one as a backup and go bigger, and I'm definitely selling the Sunpole.

I wouldnt use a Jabeo for anything other than a water changing pump. I purchased (DCT) one and the controller fried before I could even use it. I would just get a Pan World or a Japanese external pump or AC pump.

Even Ecotech DC pumps fail way too often for comfort for their price point.

I have been running the Jeabo's in all of my tanks for years now and they have been super reliable. I run maintanance on them every 6 months or so, just for my peace of mind, not because of anything else. I just recently lost one that had been running for about 5 years. I bought the 15000 and I am running it at 50% on my 150 gal tank. Your run is 16' and the max head on the 18000 is 29.5' so you will only be getting 50% flow at max. You may want to think about getting the 20000 and running it at less speed and that way you have more wiggle room. The good thing about DC pumps is that you can run them slower to match your flow. Good Luck.

I use the wavemakers and an Apex adapter / program and they work great. I think people have issues with them due to lack of maintenance or knowing how to properly clean the ceramic shafts and bearings. I have 6 that have been solid for over 5 years, but I maintain them regularly with a vinegar soak every 4 months or so, making sure the ceramic parts are clean and deposit free.

I have two DCT-8000 running on my 125 gal since July 10, 2015 .....almost 3 years without a hitch. (knock on wood)
They are quiet and have good flow, ...I run mine at 80% most of the time. I use the two return pumps, that way if one fails, the system is not shut down.

Didn't see any replies about the Hayward pool pump....I would think that would be a good choice if you have to pump a lot of water from downstairs pump room....any thoughts?....digital control, variable speed and lots of pump power and not that bad of price...?

My only concern is using that pump for my life support for a large setup. I’m willing to gamble and having the EB832 as a power backup and a leak detector would be great for any issues (That goes for any setup) so I’ll probably give it a go. I have owned 2 Jeabo products and one I didn’t feel comfortable (the dosing pump kept losing accurate time)

I use them for my tank circulation, I use Sicce for my return. So far, just as reliable as the MP40s and Tunze as far as moving water.

Dosing pumps MEh - Better have a back up for when it WILL fail

Return pumps - Ive had the best of luck with them. Specifically the Jebao DCP 5000

I thought about the whole running dual DC pumps just because I want the control aspect but I’m not sure as to how well that would work. If I were to go DC it would be external so I don’t think I’d have too many issues with heat building in the tank and also I’m looking for that max head with max GPH because honestly I only need 1800-2000 to keep in that 6-9x turnover rate. I have 2 separate tanks in one sump (one being 60g and the other being 220g) My Reeflo performs without question and being in the basement is quiet. I’m seeing a lot of mixed feelings towards the Jeabo and the ones I see that are negative are due to reliability issues at max power. I’m hoping that if I went that route and got the big one that I would be running approx 60%. Maybe I’ll get one and see what happens and keep my Reeflo as a backup

Can you provide a source or link for the claim in bold? I am very interested in having some verifiable Abyzz failures or issues to read up on, because currently, I can't find any examples of them straight up dying. However, I can find numerous examples of the Ecotech vectra series as well as any jebao based return kicking the bucket in short order. I'm an Iwaki or Panworld (for external) and Eheim or Askoll (for internal applications) kind of guy when it comes to spec'ing pumps but I do have customers who want the latest and greatest so they often tell me they want to go all LED, all wifi, all DC this and that which is a reliability nightmare for me. I want to be able to recommend an Abyzz pump if clients insist on a controllable 'DC' return but I really haven't seen a ton of reliability data one way or another on them yet. It would really help to have to verifiable experiences of potential issues with the Abyzz line to read up on.

I don't remember where all the good reads are that I read, but I looked at my replies for the forum and here are a couple people on the forum that have tried them. They can give you some insight.

Jebao DCP pumps are just way out of their price.. I don't understand how such a good product is so cheap!
That is because the distributors and retailers are making peanuts by selling these pumps.

Their business model is to sell cheap and sell a lot.

The technologies for water pumps are so matured and there is no magic in them.

Also the sales volume affects the price a lot.

Some of the named brand pumps are rebadged Jebao.

Many people who had bad Jebao pumps actually purchased black/grey market pumps from eBay or some small online outfits.
There are Jebao pumps that meant for used in Asia that do not have the thermo protection built in.

Thx, Ive read through that thread. Seems there were a couple a200 controller failures, but no reports yet of any abyzz pumps overheating as you state there were tons of overheating issues. If you do find any examples of that please let me know as I have been searching. Still important for me to keep in mind that there are a couple reports of controllers going out.

I got my busted one from Amazon actually [emoji848]. Thank goodness for their return policy. If I ever got another It would probably by from Chewy instead.

I have two 500g tanks. Dependability is in the eye of the beholder. I have a large container in my sump room of pieces of equipment that have failed. I used them for replacement parts. By FAR the most represented piece of equipment in the junk box is Jabao. In 4 years I have had about 15 die.

My recommendation would be to buy 2 of everyone you put on your aquarium, it will still be cheaper than the alternative. I would NOT use them in important areas, like return pumps or hard to reach areas of the tank. If you can get 3ish years out of two pumps, it will still be cheaper, heck even 3 is cheaper in many cases.

To the question of are they reliable? Not in my opinion but they are cheap enough to still make them viable.

i have usually gone with jebao because of the prices. Their powerheads are good and so are their return pumps. My biggest complaint tho of their return pump is that they are so loud. I had a Jebao DCT 8000 and it drove me crazy with the loud hum that it had. If noise isnt an issue for you then it would be worth it. They are work horses in my experience
