Ive worked two jobs related to the industry. From my experience, while it obviously depends on the individual job how enjoyable it is, it's still a job and if you're passion is reef-keeping, I'd tend to believe most people would enjoy letting it be a hobby they already love more than clocking in at 6AM every morning to do your required duties.
Just my opinion from my experience though. I enjoy my job but its not easy and not always so enjoyable.

Been collecting and breeding Boas since early 90s. Tried breeding Discus and Clowns decade ago. Although much easier manufacturing and wholesaling products. Time and effort much greater hosting live stock and so many things can go wrong and have you start from scratch.

Most fun I've had at a job was writing embedded software for microcontrollers (industrial fans, machine controls, etc)
Programming reef controllers, dosers, etc is probably pretty fun and interesting (at least to someone like me)

I am a science person, so definitely research and education, as well as conservation. Since moving to Florida I spend a lot of time snorkeling and have been looking into diving classes also. Research would probably be my first choice. Being underwater would be a plus, it's so relaxing. I spend most of my time researching my own tanks, lol

In my other career path I would have started at the bottom of the Florida aquaculture industry back in the 80s, maybe moved up to a research facility or educational position at a public aquaruim.
