After some par testing, I settled on AB+ spectrum, 80% program intensity. Seems like a single G5 XR30 Pro will cover a 2ft acropora cube.

To my surprise, the Kessil ap9x has better spread and PAR. I was not expecting that.

Added the AliE bars today using a DIY mount.

Items required:
  • Aquatic life hybrid mount 24” version.
  • M5 0.8 x 16 mm (to fit the hybrid mount between the Radion light and the original Radion mount)
  • M3 0.5 x 10 mm (to mount LED bars to the hybrid mount)
  • 5mm washer
  • 3mm washer
Use washers as needed to compensate for extra length of the screws.

Didn’t realize that my acros were getting only 200 par. With the addition of the AliE bars, they all sit between 300 - 380.

I’m thinking about copying your radion/or3 setup. Can you clarify one thing on your parts list. On the m3 screw first going through the washers and then into the slot on the or3, what is holding it in there ? Thanks

On the AliExpress versions, there are four loose screw nuts inside the top tracks that are supposed to be used for hanging the lights. The or3 might have the same four loose screw nuts in the top tracks. Just align them where you want them to be.

I think I found the right part, thanks

Sending you a PM. I did rearrange them recently for a better look and more spread.

This May, I had dinoflagellates for the 3rd time in 3 years and it wiped out some of my acros. I am coming around to the idea of a bigger tank being easier to maintain. This nano has been very finicky with nutrients.

Here are some pics of the survivors:

One of the challenges with so many acros and small tank is lack of nutrients. I eventually added 6 fish to keep detectable phosphates, and was dosing nitrates (ESV).

The first two times were early on in 2021 and 2022. I was new to the hobby and didn’t know what I was doing.

This last time, I was finishing up graduate school and getting married at the same time. I couldn’t really focus on the tank, letting it run too low on phosphates.

My guess is that a bigger tank will offer more buffer. At its peak, my tank consumed 3dkh alkalinity per day and could go from 0.08 to 0 phosphates in about a week.
