Did they eat before you introduced copper into the QT? If they stopped eating when copper was introduced then the copper needs to be stripped from the water until they are eating well again. After they have started eating again, then another round of GC would be prudent followed by a slow ramping of copper. Though if they stop eating again, you'll want to consider TTM instead. I prefer TTM anyway.

@isaacalves I see it now. To use GC to eradicate worms, you have to dose 2x (spaced 48 hrs apart), wait 1 week and then do two more doses (spaced 48 hrs apart). Did you do the second round a week later?

I did. Should I discontinue Cupramine and restart with another full round of GC like @melypr1985 suggests? I'm worried about the fish not eating.

And what is the best procedure to remove the Cupramine? I have a lot of carbon that I'll put into a filter bag. And a large (100%?) wc to go with that?

I would take a more direct approach, since dosing the water failed to achieve the desired results.

Pickup some Seachem Metroplex and Seachem Focus. Add 1 scoop of each to 1 tablespoon of fish food, add a little SW until a paste like consistency is achieved, and start feeding this to your fish. Let's see how the little buggers like it when metronidazole passes directly thru the intestines where they are living. :D

You can continue Cupramine treatment while feeding the medicated food.

thanks for this thread!!

I am seeing conflicting opinions about QT'ing fairy wrasse. Can someone advise if I should do something different? Do not dose copper if I see ich? (I am reading that wrasses don't take to copper too well).

Do they all need sand on the bottom to hide, or is it just leopards?

Wrasses that bury in the sand at night would be more comfortable with a bowl of sand to hide in. I've used chelated copper like Coppersafe on wrasses before but you gotta take care with it and raise it up slowly. TTM is better to use and quicker IMO.

Can a 5.5g tank be used as a hospital tank for a nano? Most bio load I'd have at a time is a pair of clowns, and I've got an extra nano skimmer I could run. Would that and an AquaClear HOB filter be sufficient to keep ammonia levels down?

I'd feel more comfortable if you used a 10 gal QT. I only like 5 gallons for temporary bath treatments, or tank transfer method where the fish only stays in the same tank/bucket for 3 days. Too much can go wrong in just a 5 gallon after that.

10 gallon it is then. Is running a skimmer on a QT wise?

It's fine, but I would discontinue (and physically remove) the skimmer while dosing meds. If copper runs through it you will need to clean it out pretty thoroughly before ever using it with corals/inverts again. Others meds like prazi & antibiotics will cause it to overskim.

Found this guy in QT this morning. I received him on 8/4 and couldn't get him to eat. I don't see any visible signs of concern. He was 1 of 2 and the other is doing well and eating. I have a pair of red mandarin gobies arriving Wed. Anything that I should be overly concerned about since they are going into the same QT and will be medicated together? (I will problem move a fairy wrasse into the QT as well.).
