How do you like the ammonia dosing. I'm considering the bi-carbonate route as well for the nitrate, pH and alk neutral properties. I just have to source some cheap powder in Canada.
I went with a food grade product on Amazon . I think it was the same stuff @Randy Holmes-Farley had originally linked to. (that link didn't work for me though)

I'm dosing 3ml in the morning and at night for about 25 gallons of actual water volume. I am not seeing any adverse affects on the fish or corals. Tomorrow at the 1 week mark I will be checking nitrates before my water change to see if I gained any. I have been at 0 for many months now. I feed 3 to 4 times a day, between frozen, flakes, pellets and freeze dried + selcon)

I also noticed that the film algae on the glass looked greener too. LoL (cleaned it off yesterday)

I'm troubleshooting my nano Innovative Marine GFO reactor and I accidentally spilled a couple tablespoons of GFO and sprayed my wall with water. So... yeah. :angry-face:

Thinking it's time to acquire a GFO reactor that fit in my stand instead of the back of the tank. This one isn't working well for me.

As I haven't built mine quite yet, I must use my imagination! So it's definitely doing great. No algae, no cyano, parameters are perfect, no aiptasia, sand is spectacular, and all of this done with perfect precision! Yes, I am THAT good!

I'm collecting zoanthids so you know....it's never totally fine or to my satisfaction, similar to many other reefer's that collect them.

I shouldn't complain thought. A year ago half of my zoanthids were melting, now only two frags look unhappy.

Still it is a bit frustrating looking at comparisons.
This is what my Bowser frag looked like 8 months ago:

And that's them now:

Fighting algae - no idea what kind (still pretty new to this), but my phosphates were high (.30), and the guy at the LFS said that may be the cause. Added some chemipure blue packets, a UV sterilizer, 33% water change, and going on 2nd day with lights off. Hopefully it goes away, and my coral can have their lights back.

My tank seems to be doing well, but it's basically just sand and rock at this point (I just added three cerinth snails today). The plan is to add macroalgae, photosynthetic sponges, and soft coral in the future; I also plan to add a shoal of Pseudomugil cyanodorsalis as well as possibly a single larger, more conventional reef fish.

I voted it's OK. I started a refugium a few months back and bottomed out my Nitrates and Phosphates. With a newborn around this year I just didn't really react/do anything about it. Now several months later some corals are starting to look unhappy. No worries though. I'm fixing the issue. Reduced the intensity of the refugium lights and started dosing some Plus NP from Tropic Marin. I already us the A4R so I'm sticking to their products. We'll see what happens in a few weeks.

Starting to see new growth on sps again after tank upgrade, new Lights finished their acclimation period this week and the white tips on my birds nest and Digitata have starting poking out. Also my itty bitty Coral Beauty has decided he's allowed to come out of the rockwork finally!

It’s always good, but could be better!
Otherwise this hobby would be boring lol

Not really a struggle, but I’m currently battling an ever increasing consumption of Alk, Ca, and Mag, as well as NO3 and PO4 in my frag tank after adding ~40 more frags in the past few weeks.

It’s okay other than what has been a mild GHA issue for a few months to explosive growth over the last couple of weeks. I’ve been avoiding anything chemical related for many reasons, but I’m seriously starting to reconsider.

After a flood in our house last year, our tank had to be moved and spent 14 months in our garage. We lost most of our corals and some fish in the process. We finished repairs and got the tank back in the house in April and it’s finally settling in again and doing good!

Picked up this Colorado Sunburst last weekend and she’s looking good so far.

Excited for CA Reefapalooza to pick up some frags to repopulate the tank.

On the plus side, having the tank moved to the garage gave me the opportunity to build an equipment rack on the side. :)
