Oh really?? I didn’t know that. Very interesting. Same parameters most people shoot for but high salinity? Any negative impact on fish health long term with that ?

No negative impact I've witnessed. More Salinity = less oxygen, which is why most wholesale and fish shop run salinity at 1.020 -- But that is a technical thing -- mean the difference between 1.0265 and 1.029 is so negligible nothing will notice. Especially if you have a skimmer.

I once bought all the horses at this guys farm including the pregnant one bc my kids were crying how cruelly they were being treated. The foal ended up frolicking around the dog with the kids like a big dog for many years.
Hahha that is awesome !!

Interesting! Well I may just let it creep up a bit and give that a shot! Thank you for the tip.

Well I mentioned it because 1.025 is kinda low. There's a reason that calibration fluids are set to 35ppm / 1.0265, this is I believe the world average. With some being lower, and some being drastically higher (like the red sea at 1.029+)

Not sure what these zoas are, they look like eagle eyes but nicer.

Maybe @Legendary Corals could chime in to confirm ID’s :)

Very happy that I won the giveaway! I never win anything! It feels great :) thank you Darwin and the dudes at Legendary Corals.

Did they settle with u?
No still waiting to hear back from fedex’s investigative unit. It’s been awhile. Still haven’t got my shipping refund back yet either. I’ll call them again on Monday and see what’s up.

@dantimdad - based on his ship times, I would start planning a spot in a tank for the birds nest at the LFS! ;Hilarious

I've heard of this approach as well. A friend of mine is trying an experiment with a 10g sps reef. Running salinity at 1.029, dkh at 13ish, and ca at 520, and mg around 1600.

He is a believer that higher salinity allows u to maintain higher levels of the "Big 3" and with the abundance of bicarbonate he thinks he may be able to drastically increase the growth rates of some slow-growers.

I'll check in with him and see how it's going. He doses po4 and no3. That's all I know.

That's all true, BRS did and confirmed that stuff like a year ago. The only outside aspect is the salinity. Salinity is not a limiting factor in the big 3. With a low salinity you could have 16 all, 800 calcium, and 2400 mag.

Correct. The only difference is with higher salinity the initial numbers will be higher and take a bit longer for the corals to use up. So, if you did AWC at the higher salinity, you may not have to dose at all.

What do people keep their nitrate and phosphate at who are running elevated salinity and big 3?

There in lies the trick. You have to keep them the same as you did at lower salinity or you get algae issues.

If you hadn't noticed. I have experimented with this years ago.

Corals loved it, fish hated it. Got constant itching like they had a disease but they didn't.

As soon as I went back down to 1.025-26 they quit scratching.

I see. Does it result in high pH and the water cooks the slime coat off them?

I always run between 35 and 36, my "Target" is 34 - 36.
Because I don't do water changes I don't have salt in the house.
If I had to jug out a gallon in a situation I just do it and top up with RO, I don't think the tank notices! :)

High pH was my first thought. I tested it and it was about 8.25 on average so no.

I think it was osmosis making them uncomfortable.

Contrary to the phrase "Drinks like a fish" they don't. They move water in an out of their body through osmosis. This is entirely dependent on the salt in their body being able to balance with the water around them.

I think that was what caused the issue.
