Fungia plate dying from the mouth out

One day it was fine and happy, then i noticed the mouth open wide, followed by necrosis… no idea what went wrong. No parameter changes or anything.

I've never seen that before. Doubtful it'll survive without the mouth but leave it in the tank...always a chance it could produce a baby. I had a torch fall on my orange plate and killed off about 1/5 of it. After a couple of months it produced a baby in that area. Once the baby released the flesh started growing back over the bare spot.
