Remember, one of the wave maker/power heads will be pointed at the surface for agitation and increase gas exchange. I agree you can definitely have more fish, I have 7 in a 32 gallon.

For weeks I’ve been pondering the base/stand build.

Is there a regular height or known standard measurement for the top of the tank?

Like an average height from the floor,
for both cleaning and display purposes?

Said another way-
“distance from the floor to the top of the tank”
There is no required height, it's whatever works best for you. With a 24" deep tank, it's better to have the stand a little lower imo. I'm 6' and I have to get on my toes to reach the sand in my 60g cube. I have a stock stand that came with the Deep Blue tank and it's 2'8" tall, for reference.

Looks like I’ve also got a 30 x 30 x 27 tall cube (also, acrylic) coming my way as well as the 24”x24”x24”

I’m considering putting them both in opposite corners of the basement, which is only about 14 feet wide

Right in the middle of this wall there is a closet, pretty much centered

Would it behoove me to put a nice large sump in that closet and plum both tanks to one sump,
instead of having two, smaller separate sumps for each tank?

I'm no expert yet, but absolutely agree with everyone regarding water flow. Also a good quality light with flexibility will help a lot too. I have a 24 gal AIO cube with 2 Jebao sow-4 propeller pumps on a medium setting and the seem to do the job just fine in keeping the corals clean and water moving. My tank has 2 pink skunk clowns, a bicolor blenny, 2 peppermint shrimp, an arrow crab, mixed snails/crabs clean-up crew, and 10 soft corals.
I use around 2-4 gallons of RODI a week for top off. Here in Florida the central air is always running and removing humidity, lol.

Just do your best research, listen to the input people offer, and try to make the best choices for your situation. I see lots of good advice in replies thus far.

Thanks I will.
Trying to pick a return pump/pumps now.

Reading up on this, the suggestions vary wildly -
from 3 times to 30or40 times the size of your tank in GPM rating!
Combine this with head pressure loss,
blah blah blah…

The more I read up on reefing, the more I see that you can almost do it any way you want, and still find a way to make it work.

I was hoping for reading/learning about lots of “known standards” in the hobby…but the FACT is there really is none!

Im dissatisfied in this unfortunate fact… it certainly doesn’t make things easier for a new guy like me to get the ball rolling.

But…“persistence kills resistance!

Hi all.…
still waiting on my two cube tanks lol.

Did move ahead with an RODI system and mixing station though…
Where’s the best place to buy healthy livestock (fish) for reef tank aquarium in the Northeast (central NJ)?
