Guys, think about this. You have to realize as a company @Hanna Instruments has demonstrated that they care about their product and their customers. None of us really know what exactly the use of this product was intended for until I stumbled upon it working well for us in the hobby. It may not have been a "big seller" for them previously. In three weeks time this thread has over 600 replies and 10k views, who knows how many people have ordered just based on the results being shared within the thread, which by the way I appreciate. They immediately began testing upon this discovery, logically from a business standpoint they have to be 100% sure that they can stand behind the accuracy of the tester in order to sell/market it to be used in the manor we tend to use it. They posted today they will be finished up with that process within the next week. (IMO 30 days to do so is more than reasonable) I think its safe to assume as long as their research provides the same result we who already have a tester have found. They will ramp up production and hopefully stocking won't be a future issue. You have to take into consideration the amount of money they are spending in order to validate this, which is why I say they care. Yes in the long run they will benefit from the huge amount of sales potential, but I am just saying some food for thought.

I know I am a few hundred dollars in at a minimum, in purchasing their equipment and all the various types of copper tested. I am not complaining, at all. Glad to do it for R2R and the hobby, as its the least I have to offer with the wealth of free guidance and info on this forum. I know waiting is frustrating, but its not like it has been six months. I have to admit, I was very uneasy waiting for my reagents, since I now heavily rely on this slick little device. Soon enough guys!

They've been saying they will test it in saltwater since at least August 2017:

There wasn’t really a reason to check the high range checker back then. It’s pretty common to go on the back burner given the circumstances. They sold very few of these for this application and I suspect it wasn’t originally designed for this use. This is how many things are discovered, drugs for example often treat something other than they were intended to. Ritalin was a weight loss drug that turned out to help ADD kids focus as well.

Also I believe the claim was really about the low range checker, I don’t know if they had planned to do much with the high range product (for this purpose).

Anyway, it probably wasn’t a priority but it’s clear that it is now. In @Hanna Instruments defense, they probably found that their time was better suited on things already selling.

In addition, we can be as frustrated as we want, but nothing fast happens in corporate America! Anyone that works for a large company knows what I’m talking about haha!

Let's try to be patient everyone. This Hanna High Range Copper Checker has the potential to be a real game changer. I'm just as frustrated as everyone else, and want my checker & reagents ASAP. But it's important to give @Hanna Instruments time to do proper research, testing and fill all these backorders. Nothing good comes from a rush job.

We also have to remember that these test kits must meet scientific standards. Not just hobbyist standards.

We quarantine fish 4-8 weeks before adding to DT, but a 3-4 week backorder on this and suddenly we all have no patience :D

I'm so over the whole QT thing. I haven't QT'd a fish in months.

Could be because I QT'd them all so they are all still alive.......

Yeah thanks to yourself HotRocks and 4FordFamily for putting that video together. Your trick on how to get the powder out of the sachet/pouch is a live saver, its a nightmare to get it out any other way! My post might be a bit confusing, what I meant was as I walked around the house the colour (yes that is how us Aussies spell it :)) of the blue in the Salifert was changing darker to lighter. My water is definitely 0.5 as per the 3x repeat Hanna tests, as I dosed Cupramine following the dosage instructions exactly and in 'outside diffused sunlight' the Salifert does show 0.5.

I feel a bit guilty, I just drove 10 minutes from work at lunchtime to the Hanna Instruments office and they sold it to me over the counter, looks like you guys have a months wait. If it's any consolation, you guys are very spoilt for choice with BRS, WWC and the like - we just have what is on the shelves at the LFS + a few online retailers plugging Chinese stuff - took me 6 weeks to order in a Radion XR15 diffuser (brilliant by the way) and my Kessil H380 I had to buy from the US and it took 8 weeks to get to me!

More testing last night...
I got my calibration check set, tester read 1.95ppm. So its well within the range of calibration. (Target is 2.0ppm, with an acceptable reading of 1.90ppm-2.10ppm according to Hanna)

Thank @scuzy for bringing to light that the reagents for the portable photometer (HI96702), work with the checker (Confirmed Below). That may be an option for someone needing reagents in bulk!

Seems my absorbtion is finally coming to an end. I added 3ml (.12ppm) more of copper power, after the prior nights test result of 1.72ppm and then topping off my QT (+/- 1 gallon).

This Test was using the reagent for the checker (HI702-25)

If you notice the lines on the cuvettes test on left was the checker reagent, right photometer reagent. I think they would have yielded the same exact result, had they been filled the same.

Indeed.
Though I think an even better example is sildenafil. It was originally being used for pulmonary hypertension until some patients experienced a...pleasant surprise :p:p

Yes, I can see how a freshwater copper checker being used for saltwater is on the same level as these other discoveries.
