Best case would be damage control, but it’s clear to me at least that they don’t care.
I would caution against confusing a lack of competency with a lack of compassion. They may care but I don't think they know enough about their products to know how to respond. :(

I would say that’s reckless, but that’s my own opinion I don’t expect anyone to share my view. Something I care about, I will know about if I am providing a good or service.

Admittedly, I’m quite “salty” (pun intended) about all of my QT losses...

I never did hear back from Fritz about my email. In fairness to them, there’s not much they could say. Best case would be damage control, but it’s clear to me at least that they don’t care.
Yeah. I would expect that a "we'll be sure to look into this" email response would be appropriate, even if you don't hear any follow-up after that

Yeah... I did kind of set them up for a lose/lose. It was professional but notably angry.

Yes it was, but I don't think you really left them with much to respond to.

Let me first start by saying thank you to @HotRocks and @4FordFamily for bringing this thread to fruition. Lord knows how many (more) fish may have died had you guys not discovered the problem and then went and found a solution. I'd also like to thank @Hanna Instruments for making such an awesome little device that is so easy to use. This will help me sleep better tonight than I have in weeks. This is awesome!!!

Ok..Now to the numbers
I dosed ~30ml into a 29g tank with probably ~27-28 gallons. It was brought up over a few days. My eye test told me between 1.5-2ppm, and it looks like I was just about spot on.

Now my question... I know there's a +/- .05 on the test. Because I'm a smidge over, should I do a top off to bring that down a little? Or should I be content with where it's at?

I would leave it. Odds are it is safe at up to 2.5ppm based on what we know from Copper Power. So while you are a little on the high end, evaporation should not put you in a dangerous area.

You are using copper power or copper safe?

If your fish are acting fine I wouldn't worry too much about dropping it. I am going to shoot for 1.75 on my current batch.

Thanks @Brew12 for the quick response. If it makes any difference, I'm using coppersafe. It's all I had to work with

Coppersafe. They seem absolutely fine... They're all eating and swimming around like "what copper?"

I suspect that Coppersafe and Copper Power are chelated with the same indgredient so their dosing recommendations should be identical. The concentrations in the bottle may be a little different but that is about the only difference.

My checker + Reagents are all on backorder. :(

I won’t be using chelated copper again until I have one of these in hand. ;)

My order from Hanna is also on backorder, including another tester, but actually found the one that came today on eBay (also directly from Hanna). I know a couple users said they checked there too and it was out of stock...but it may be worth periodically peeking in

They clearly weren't expecting this!

I would hazard to guess that having the portable checker isn't of as much use to someone testing copper frequently than the larger "professional" for lack of a better term Hanna or Hatch kits, in which reagents come in packs of hundreds or thousands. I know our waterworks guys at work wouldn't use a "checker" version for chlorine testing, too many possible on-site variables and potential damage to cuvettes / improper cleaning.

For us they're perfect though.

Guess i am a little confused.. i have never gone off the dosing of the instructions on the bottle as rock or sand or even some equipment can asorbe copper..
When i spoke to Hanna weeks ago they specifically informed that that the kit would not work well with Saltwater and was not designed for such. just reporting what I was told.

They had never tested the high range model. They tested the low range model, I don't know exactly what caused them to determine the low range model was not accurate in the presence of seawater. The low range model measures in PPB instead of PPM. So wouldn't be a suitable range for us anyway.

I have no idea what the intended use for the tester in freshwater would be, as my assumption would be possibly someone who may treat ponds and such. Copper is widely used as an algecide in local ponds etc. Also as mentioned above possibly any water treatment facility.

Neither here nor there, @Hanna Instruments is testing this product currently for our type of use. Patiently we wait. I have done everything I can to make it fail, yet to find a way...
