OUCH! Yeah I know there are several people that have made mention of ordering, but who knows how many people have ordered without comment!

Interested to see what you think!

Their website is kind of misleading. It still says ships in 1-2 business days, instead of showing as back ordered. I thought they got a new batch in, but their website is just not up to date on stock.

I'd read some of their other kits were time sensitive. Something like "3 minutes to do a 4 minute test" kind of testimonies. Is this kit the same thing? If so, how many reagents did you go through to get the timing/tactic down?
If it's not THAT complicated I don't see why I won't really like it.

Yeah.. That bothered me too. In 2018 most websites bother to let you know an item is out of stock.

CP prophylactic, maybe, but for copper i tend to strongly disagree. If you let me make this comparison, its like starting chemotherapy on a patient without confirmed cancer diagnosis.

In my opinion every treatment needs to be based on a proper diagnosis. I see that the treatment part in fish medicine is very advanced, while often the diagnosis is lacking behind. - I would say thats a main issue the community has to face if we want to advance and make this hobby more fish-friendly.

Sorry for the off-topic! :)

Best,
Christoph
With nearly every fish, definitely every batch of fish I’ve received in the past 3 years, coming in with ich or velvet from nearly everywhere —- not quarantining in copper or CP is a disaster. The disease forum is teaming with these issues.

CP is great but not readily available to the masses short of a script, and a real pain to continue to obtain.

I think he wasted one reagent the first time if I recall. Still got a pretty accurate reading with some missing reagent!

To make a long story not quite as long, but in all likelihood still long....
Before my current velvet outbreak I talked to Colby @PIA to try to get me a couple wrasses(female flame and female rhomboid) in preparation for my upcoming 180 build. He got them in mid-late February, took a few weeks to condition them, and then sent them out last week. During this time frame I threw in a couple snails/hermits and got flukes/velvet in DT. Initially thought it was simply flukes but didn't qt my first couple fish so I also did ttm/hypo to erradicate possible ich along with the flukes. A few days later I realized it was velvet.

Given in all likelihood I managed to get a single drop of water into their qt, I'm actually going to take that approach. I'm heating up water for a fw dip to look for flukes, and then I'm moving them to a 3rd qt tank in another room that's been "cycling" a couple days. I already broke down and gave away my original 55 and will be doing the same with my nano(2 clowns and a little goby will also be treated). Come tomorrow, every one of my fish will be in a qt tank being treated with copper. I am not willing to gamble on all of my remaining fish because I didn't do copper with these two wrasses.

To clarify, multiple qt tanks. Some started last week while the wrasses, clowns, and goby will begin tonight

Every time you click the button, you have ten minutes. If it goes untouched for ten minutes, it shuts off. (Once you have it down, it only takes about 3 minutes to preform the entire test)

Correct, I never actually missed/botched a complete test, I did lose some reagent the first couple tests when I hadn't figured out the "right" way to do it (it did not affect the test from what it could tell after a re-test). If you watch the video, and cut the reagent packets the way shown, and use them to make a "funnel" it makes it much easier.

Thats only the case for our HI713 and HI736 Checkers.

These instruments shuts down after 3 minutes of non-use and 2 minutes after read. This is to save battery and reflects the proper window of time needed for the chemical reaction to take place for accurate analysis. One fresh battery lasts for minimum of 5000 measurements, depending on the light level. When the battery capacity is under 10 % “bAt” appears on the LCD at start-up. If the battery is empty and accurate measurements can’t be taken any more, the instrument shows “bAd” then ”bAt” each for 1 second and turns off.

The HI702 does not have this chemical reaction window.

Awesome. Thanks @HotRocks and @Hanna Instruments for taking the time to respond

Is the video on their site, or do you mean a video you posted in this thread?

Got my checker today! Seems to be working great! Copper in my QT was 2.3. Now that I can accurately measure I will shoot for lower, between 1.5 and 2 in the future.

(Using Coppersafe. As best I could tell previously with chemetrics the best I could say was “somewhere between 2 and 3”)

I think most people will find that they were reading lower than the actual number. I think it's because you have the "I can't drop below 1.5, engrained in your head" so you shoot high. I did the same thing.

Do you know how many ml you dosed to your tank? And how many gallons is it? I'm just curious as to the potency of your bottle.

Sounds like your bottle is about like mine then. I'm glad you stopped. Because per their instructions, you should have dosed another 4.5ml. That would have landed you well above 3.0. 3.6 more than likely. Crazy!

Yup, thankfully I tested regularly each day and didn't rely on predetermined dosing. fwiw my bottle appears to be of the same batch that you or @4FordFamily posted earlier in the thread.

For some reason I'm not surprised in the slightest.

I never did hear back from Fritz about my email. In fairness to them, there’s not much they could say. Best case would be damage control, but it’s clear to me at least that they don’t care.
