I recently upgraded to an elite. It’s really nice. The biggest difference is the turn-lock cup versus friction gasket. Which to me is important, but maybe not $100s more. I got a screaming price on mine.

edit: it’s stupid quiet

$783 for a skimmer seems absurd to me.
Yeah I’m in a similar frame of mind. At the end of the day, it’s a plastic container with a pump. If a skimmer is then the pump is the engine, transmission, radiator, etc. and the plastic chamber is the chassis. The plastic is cheap, so I don’t understand how you get to $800 when the pump is 90% of the equipment and pumps aren’t anywhere near that expensive.

What’s more interesting to me is the idea that a round chamber is best. I believe that was sold to us just because of the ease to manufacturer. The vast majority of modern skimmers are just shooting the bubbles directly up, so corners don’t really effect the bubble flow to the cup. Having said that, a square chamber can hold about 33% more water volume than a circular one for the same footprint, or hold the same amount of water with a smaller footprint. Not to mention, you could make rectangular designs that are easier to fit in tighter, more specific places.

I prefer a turn lock cup as well, but like I mentioned, I would pay an extra $400 for a feature like that. As far as noise, a lot of that has to do with the pump. Just run the nicer pump on an older chamber and call it a day.

GAME REMINDER
CHRISTMAS SHOPPING

title gif.gif

It's getting close to Christmas but I still have some last minute shopping to do! For this game, I will post an item every hour, on the hour. The price will be displayed below the item, however the numbers are in the wrong order. The first person to put the numbers in the correct order to show the correct price gets a point. After ten rounds, the person with the most points wins a $75 DINKINS AQUATIC GARDENS GIFT CARD!!!

In the event of a tie, the person that scored first wins. Good luck!

Right, for example the Simplicity skimmers are DC and have turn lock. I had one… it wasn’t super quiet.

The Elite is just so quiet it’s hard to explain. The air sucking noise isn’t there. It really impresses me. That said, others maybe too.

What is the relationship between CC and Dinkin Aquatics?
The relationship is that Dinkins wanted to give everyone lovely prizes during an amazing Cherry Corals sale. I’ll email them and let them know the ten $75 GCs that I plan on giving away to all y’all is under question by @Cell and that no one will get any of them now.

I prefer all of my equipment to be loud, however I’m particular about the sound it makes. Between all of my different pieces of equipment I’ve assembled an orchestra! My skimmer is a very good cello. Nice and deep, very emotional and tense.

Or in my case, I can walk by an know what is and isn't running. "Dang it forgot to turn the skimmer/ gyre back on!" :zany-face:
