When Covid first hit in 2020, I left the hobby for many different reasons. Now, mid 2022, I'm ready to dive back in and get my fins wet.

I've been out and about and studying up again and have already learned of a couple changes since leaving the hobby. One of my favorite corals, Acans, have been reclassified and are now Micromussas?? And at the store the other day, I saw Reefroids now come in bag and though it looks cheaper is all kinds of expensive for that little bag??

As I make my way back in the hobby, I wanted to reach out and ask if you can share any other changes that I should be aware of, whether significant, or small? Any help catching me up is greatly appreciated!
Acan has a variett- Micomussa, mierletti and enchinata

Even a loaf of bread …
Milk ,

I’ve been waiting for butter to come on sale . I refuse to pay $7 when it will come on sale for $2.99
Whenever I want to complain here about the cost of food (and it's five bucks for house-brand butter), I think of the days when I lived in the NWT in 2007-2008: eight bucks for 2L of pop in Norman Wells...$36/kg for mushrooms and $100 for a bucket of fried chicken in Inuvik...mouldy vegetables (and bread) in Lutselk'e...ransacked grocery shelves in Yellowknife during freeze up and breakup on the Mackenzie...

I'm glad that I didn't try to keep any fish then. :)

I didn’t think reef roids came in anything other than the round containers .
I bought a massive bag ( 150g ) but with not many corals left. .
I haven’t used any

have you priced a yellow tang ?
Or remember the price from pre Covid ?

Was just talking about yellow tangs with lfs this week. Apparently they're super rare now and cost like $600!!

They used to be super popular and cheap back in the day!

Is no one buying captive-bred tangs like I did? They're $200 CAD here and widely available.

Apparently not in my area... none of my lfs carry yellow tangs at the moment. They have one or two in display tanks but that's about it.

Also apparently missed the Cobalt NeoTherm recall?? Used to be the best and most reliable/stable water heater...I went to buy one for my new build and lfs explained they went under and they no longer carry them! :(
Had 2 different cobalt heaters go kaput. One split open and roached my 30g aio tank. The other went runaway in my 50g, right at the 1 year mark.

After that, I stick to cheap heaters now.

EDIT:

A few more changes I've found:

Apparently Yellow Tangs are super rare now and cost like $600 when they used to be common and cheap!!

Cobalt NeoTherm heaters used to be the best and most reliable/stable water heater...I went to buy one for my new build and lfs explained they went under and they no longer carry them! :(

You can still get that heater under a different name

Price pre covid was $60 local. I bought mine the day they announced hawaii closed. Went to LFS and grabbed one of the two they had.

I grabbed a kole too for same price but that tang was a dick so got rid of it.

Anywho most noticeable change for me is fish prices are up, selection and quality are both down.

The price of soda and chips and so on has been great for helping me avoid the snacks. I don’t want to pay $7 a 12 pack or $5 a bag of chips so I don’t!

Now the price of eggs being $5 a carton is annoying… :(
