I picked up a 72x36x32 acrylic tank for my fishroom (garage cement floor)

I want to build a "basic" stand, and was thinking 4x4 for legs and 2x6 for everything else with 1/2' Plywood on top

Would that size lumber be ok?

I believe there is a calculator on the website that can help with load calculations. For us, we now use 2x2 steel tubes or 80/20 aluminum frames.

I guess it depends on what "for everything else" means. I can think of 4x4 by 2x6 that could fail if not supported right. :)

For my 360 I used all 2x6s King of DIY way.

I am using 4x4 for legs, and the rest of the stand 2x6 and it will be supported enough to park my truck on it

Wouldn’t do 4x4s at all. Double up 2x4s or line up a 2x4 and 2x6 perpendicular to each other and you’ll be much better off.

A 360 gallon tank is like parking an SUV on that stand forever... My 360 gallon is an aluminum stand with a cosmetic wood wrap.
It’s just a fact that two 2x gluelam boards give you more strength than a single 4x4. Plus 4x4 is much more prone to warping and being a less true piece of wood than 2 2x. That’s all. I can’t place the direct link, but this idea isn’t new and easily accessible with a quick google search on the topic.
