Im a new member and I already experience a scammer in this forum. I just want to spread awareness to others when you see stuff like this. The big give away is when they say “I’m not in the states right now” or “im going to ship it from another address” please be careful .

Welcome!

Always trust your instincts. If I'm getting used equipment, then I prefer to pickup so I can see it in person before paying - but I know that seems old school... Craigslist and local hobby clubs, and even LFS sometimes have used equipment. This is a post that maybe will help you find people or club near you, if interested:

Hello and welcome!

If anyone is getting messages like this please report the message using the report link located at the bottom left of the post. We will investigate and ban spammers like we did this member.

Thanks for bringing this to light!

Regardless of potential shady chats (some people just don’t communicate well electronically as well)

Just ALWAYS use PayPal.

If it’s a scam and you dispute it and claim no receipt of goods, PayPal will ask the seller to provide proof of shipment to your address within 48 hours (or 72 I forget)

you will ALWAYS get refunded if they don’t.

that way you don’t have to miss out on a potential deal for fear of scams.

if they try to get gift cards or refuse PayPal, that should be your biggest red flag.
