Bakbay's 450g - Final Upgrade?

For ammonia control, I've done the following:

1. Installed 2 ammonia-absorbing matts
2. Removed half the rocks covered in (dead) algae
3. Removed 4 dead turbo snails
4. Poured 10+ caps of Prime
5. Poured 100mL Microbacter7
6. Will change 40g of water tonight to get to 1.009

Anything I should do to keep ammonia close to zero? Keep pouring Prime everyday?

Is your skimmer still cranking? It was doing an awesome job. Maybe add some socks temporarily on any drain lines not running through the fleece roller and change them every day. A can't comment on continuing to add prime. I mentioned before that ozone through the skimmer might assist as it breaks down organic compounds which could result in a decrease in ammonia. Trying to exhaust all the options I can think of.
Again, Jay is the go-to guy.

Skimmer is still cranking, although less now under low salinity. I use filter floss so throwing it out daily.

Goal is go save all these fish at all costs! lol

Latest params — I’ve been trying to put more soda ash to boost pH but at 5ish, it’s going to be very challenging. pH is around 7.7 atm — assume that’s ok?

With the ammonia being slightly elevated, I wouldn't worry about a pH of 7.7 - that won't harm the fish, and is pretty typical of a hyposalinity scenario. A lower pH helps to negate the toxicity of the ammonia.

I see there was a missing word in my previous post (I need to take more care with early morning posts!) I meant to say - can you get a video of the french angel?

I got millions of these eggs and so far, these snails survive Hypo. I took many out already but some are still moving around in the tank!

Seems so in my tank - I’m at 1.010 and these buggers came out at night hence I caught them.

I had 4 Turbos that died since I couldn’t find / catch them.

…many innocent lives were perished in the hands of evildoers and all those courageous First Responders who unselfishly sacrificed their lives to save others.

…and for little old me to stay in hypo for 30 days before slowly increase salinity back to 1.025.

The rapid breathing and coughing still looks like flukes to me. However, the hyposalinity should have begun to control that by now.

Amyloodinium/velvet also causes rapid breathing and is not controlled by hyposalinity - but in that case, the fish wouldn’t scratch/flash, they would all stop eating and begin to die in a few days.

Oh - I missed that. Hypo often doesn’t even begin to show improvement in the fish for the first three days. I would skip the FW dip at this point.

Sorry to hear about all your losses. Personally I would have went the ich management route, especially in such a large system. In my 500 gal. display my group of tangs all get a few specks of ich from time to time but it never lasts more than a few days and their immune system is able to over come it. I believe more instability and shock to the system going hypo is worse than the actual ich for fish health. I hate to say it and don’t mean to sound negative but I would imagine this won’t be the last ich you see even after running hypo.

Thanks Jay. Doing FW would be very stressful and yes, I was at 1.009 last night holding steady as of this morning. Will keep an eye on them for the next several days.

I’ve had ich before in other tanks and yes, went away on its own. However, for this tank, I had to resort to hypo (or copper) since 3 hippos were covered in white! I lost 2 small fish and things were spreading hence had to take immediate action.

Desperate calls for desperate measures. My Frenchie has not been doing well so I took him to ER for a CT scan. Hopefully the docs can find something wrong with him… (fingers crossed)
